Question - harbor freight 'matte black'.?

Read here that HF matte black doesn't work with dry tumble.

Does it work with lacquer thinner wet tumble?

    thanks...

I remember that Pablo 5959 got it to work pretty good.

Thank you. Based on the thread, I'll use the dry HF red for now and check out Smoke's powders when I need another color.

The wet tumble is a bit messier, and in my experience it always needed two coats. It shot just fine and I can't tell any difference on the chrony, but the dry tumble or spray seems to be the favorite ways to go.

I tried every "hot" solvent in my large shop ( have a LOT of different ones for wood finishing) and nothing would dissolve the HF matte black to give smoothe coats. All were messy and lumpy. ESPC is the only proven way to coat with matte powders so far.

The piglet method (at it became know as) worked early on for other colors. Some claim to have gotten the matte balck to coat, but required multi coats and is messy.....waste of time in my book. If a color will not coat in one app, get another method or color! And the very few comments on potential abrasion of barrels probably came from the extremely thick multi coats of the wet stuff. (No factual proof as of yet!) ESPC coats are nice, smooth, and around 1.5-2 thou.

    Have fun coating!

Yes, I had pretty good luck with it and lacquer thinner. Its a bit messier and slightly more involved than dry tumble, but it does work

Yes, I did get it to work ok with small batches.
I would not recommend it though.
Way more mess then it was worth.
That Mat Black felt like I was trying to push a rock through my sizer too.
If you ask me, dump the Harbor Freight stuff.
An go with a quality PC.
    Stick with gloss.
I hear Smoke has good stuff.
    you won't be sorry.
