    Powder coating 357

    Hello,
    What timing,
I had stopped shooting my 357 revolver due to old eyes.
I just bought a 15" 357 Encore barrel from Mike Bellm
and put a red dot on it for a 50 yd hog gun. I have 30-06, and 223 pistol
barrels also, but straight wall cases are easier to reload in large numbers. A few years ago I got in on the group buy for Lyman #2 (I think). I cast prob 68 pounds of 158 grn 357 lee TL358s
I do not have a bhn tester, I also water dropped them. I am so happy to
stumble here and youtube about powder coating.

    Question #1
For those that have done it, Does PC really allow full house 357 loads ?
I think that mine are really hard (read that hopefully hard enough to not strip
    as easily as softer cast).

    Question #2
if they are that hard, will PC allow them to be shot at 38spl speeds if they are too hard to obturate ?

    Question #3
I also have the 110gr 30cal soupcan that I load with pistol powder in 30-30 levergun and also 30-06 case in encore pistol. It is gas checked, but if PC does that allow me to push it harder ? If so what have you pushed it too ?

I believe in reading archives before posting, and I will, but I want to start PC before I can read it all.

    Regards
    Mike

    I am shooting powder-coated .357s with near-maximum charges of 2400, from a 6" revolver. Very little leading.

I am pushing 120 gr. TC bullets to near max with Bullseye powder, no leading at all with my powder coated bullets sized to ..358 shot in any of my revolvers,
very accurate out to 25 yards.

I don't load 357 but I push 30 cal PC bullets close to 2000 fps and 40s as low as 700 fps with same alloy, no leading. They can be pushed faster but I haven't tried

I'm shooting Lee 158swc PC'd and sized to 358, loaded with 15.2gr 2400, max for jacketed. They work great in the Smith 6" model 28. No leading, the alloy is 12.5BHN, the PC is PBTP wet black.

People don't usually encounter leading as the factor that limits velocity with powder coating. Generally accuracy drops off before leading becomes a problem unless you've got a rough throat or something.

How close to jacketed max is that?
