Smoke 4320-anyone used clear or silver?

I have asked numerous times in the vendors looong thread and never gotten a response. Like most probably I started out with Harbor Freight red and while it worked well I simply do not prefer colorful boolits. I just dont like the look.

So before spending money and being disappointed I hope SOMEone has tried his clear or silver (or gray? Does he have gray?) and can just tell me does it work as well as the other colors that have been posted.

Frankly I am surprised that these options are not WAAAY more popular than all the unusual colors. Any feedback on "normal boolit color" PC would be much appreciated.

I've used topcoats that are transparent. In fact, my original picture is all topcoat colors. Clear is no different, really. Somewhere in my collection I have a bunch of clear.

Yep, clear. Well it is Powder By The Pound's 'Crystal Clear Super Durable High Gloss'.
I have found two points that come to mind. Any little imperfection on the surface of the lead becomes very, very visible and exaggerated. The second is newly cast lead is a shiny silver, after being coated with this clear, it is more a gray color, not objectionable but not silver. Most likely oxidation effects from the heating.
I have had excellent results and have been sprinkling some of my airsoft balls with a little powder in to the clear for a little variation. It will have a sprinkle of color.

    Enjoy,

Smoke said he will have some clear back in stock in the next couple of weeks. I will be acquiring a pound of it when he does and I will get some pics posted shortly there after.

I have refrained from answering the question because I am the one selling the product but here goes ..
I have sold about 40 Lbs of Silver and at least 10 LBs of Clear and no one have ever reported any issues with coverage.. Don't know why no one with post pics for you ..
The thing is all the colors are clear with a colorant added so if the colors work then the clear will work ..Oversimplified explaination but it works

silver test batch and plain bullets to compare

    No on both counts.
Clear with little granules of the color.

    These are clear only.
They look like this, 30-06 on top of 300 BlackOut on top of 308/7.62s

Prettty much all i have used, is PBTP clear, bought a pund of black, but only used it once.

it works fine, same as any other powder (i've just done ES)

I use it cuz I can't risk getting branded as a hand loader at the local ranges

just wish the PBTP orders arrived as a loose powder, instead of blockClick image for larger version.

Why is that? I've heard of a few ranges not allowing reloads...but even more not allowing cast boolits. Just wondering why you could shoot commercial cast but not your own.

Liability, from the few idiots out there

a sign saying "no reloads" goes much further in court than a sign saying "no idiots"

They would have to close our range down as 95% 0f the members reload and 50% cast
But it sure make my mining easy as it always has plenty of tin and antimony in the mix.

I'm usually at Shooters world, "no reloads" and even fussier, shoot straight

shooters world is like the taj mahal of ranges, and the parking lot is littered with audis, etc
seen a ferrari in there as well. jacked up redneck trucks are very rare

not many handloaders in this bunch, if there are, we stay in the closet

I have had the best results with smokes clear using the ASBBDT. I prefer the silver color from the clear opposed to colored bullets. I have also used red, blue, green & orange... Best one-coating is the clear.

The 'Shak-n-bake' method of coating is to put the raw and clean lead into a number 5 plastic container, Cool Whip container (the recycle code on the bottom of plastic containers, type 5). Add a little dry polyester powder and the lid, shake. Some have found that adding 'Air Soft plastic BBs' helps in getting an even coating of powder on the lead. Them its is a matter of getting the coated bullets into the oven to cure.

So, "ASBBDT" is Air Soft B B Dry Tumble.

    That help?

I haven't seen all that much difference when using or not using ASBB in the coating process.

I have coated with the temps close to '0' degrees and the wind blowing 15 and 20 MPH, with a cool fog in the early mornings and in the heat of the day with temps in the upper 90s. Humidity from 100 % down to the mid 20% range.

And I have found that the 'black' powder I have just doesn't do well, it clumps. Both the NEON Pink and NEON Yellow coat well, the carrier polyester does, but the pigment has thin spots. HF RED seems to end up thicker that others. But, my 'clear' polyester coats evenly and well every time.

Balls haven't shown me anything more than them being in my way as I pick bullets out of the dust. I use a vinyl glove on one hand to pick bullets out as set on my cooking tray. The glove's fingers coat quickly and doesn't disturb the powder on the bullets.

I have tried double coating and didn't like the results.

    Enjoy,

    OSOK
