On the headspace issue, I have seven different Mosins and a set of Okie headspace gages. One day on a lark, I took one bolt and checked the headspace with it in all of them. They all passed.

http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Products/291740.htm Pricey... but if you must, here it is. Try E-Sarco too. http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/mosinnagant.aspx very bottom of the page, half the price of Numrich.

One quick way to keep them in order, is to print up some clip art rifles with the words "This bolt goes with this rifle".

Cut them out in rectangles, use a hole punch in one corner and slip a rubber band through.

Fill out tag with rifle and bolt numbers, cover with scotch tape and attach to bolt handle.

Simple enough and in case of emergency, it won't be a mystery for someone privy to the key.

I have seen very few Mosin 1891s with Matching bolt and receiver serial numbers, BUT all shoot very well. I know because I own them. Same goes for the SMLEs I have. It seems the rimmed cartridge rifles are more forgiving about headspace issues. If there is a small problem, I merely back off the resizing die a quarter turn and keep on reloading ammunition.

Buy a new rifle and use the old one for a part's gun
