Favorite 41 magnum boolit?

Just bought a S&W Model 57 with 4-inch barrel. Now I need to buy a mold and start casting so that I have something to shoot in this caliber.

What's your favorite range boolit in 41 magnum? I usually tend to start with Lee, but I am open to one of the custom mold makers, as long as the mold has at least 4 cavities.

I'm partial to the RCBS 41-210-SWC. It's quite accurate and effective in my Model 58. I generally load it to duplicate the old police load as it's easy on the revolver and it shoots to the point of aim. Virtually the same ballistics and performance as the ammo I was issued back in the day.

LEE does or did make a pretty decent 41 cal boolit, I use the lyman 410 whatever that takes a gas check and it's alright except for the G/C part.
my favorite is a 4c lyman, button nosed wadcutter mold that comes in about 200 grs and is styled like the 358091 mold only bigger.
out to about 75 yds I haven't beat it for accuracy yet, it will also take velocity quite well.
I push it with 8.5 grs of unique.

My favorites are LBT WFN 240 GC and Accurate # 41-240K (plain base). Both are available with four cavities.

X2 I also had one cavity hollow pointed and I'm very happy with it in either configuration.

I also like a WC, but those molds are kinda rare to find.

Saeco #411 is a great SWC. LBT's WFNs are oustanding, and NOE has a very nice LFN...Now if we can get Al (NOE) to add a 240ish grain plain base WFN to his catalog I'd have to order another of his moulds as soon as available...Why not request a good wadcutter while we're at it?

In an effort to clarify my "wants"... Al has a 238 grain "WFN" cataloged. The design is actually the LFN I mentioned, but I'm interested in a much wider meplate similar to the 38 caliber 180 WFN he offers.

I had terrible luck with the Lyman SWC w/gc. The best shooting boolit in my Ruger SBH Hunter is the SAECO 220gr Truncated Cone with GC. The Second is the RCBS SWC with the Lee SWC TL a close runner up.
I have pushed all of these boolits over 1,500 fps with 2" to 4" groups at 100 yards. Gun is scoped. No leading even with the plain based boolits but all are coated with Hi-Tek coating. Hard for me to shoot like this now with my hands in the shape they are.
The gas checks to fit the Seaco boolits can be bought from Blammer on this site. They are the Lyman style sold by Gator Checks.
Alliant 300MP has proven to be the best powder followed by Lil'Gun. Then 110/296.
Check the SAAMI website for the correct case length and diameter of the boolits. The cases are longer than the 357 or 44 mag. The diameter for lead is .411", for jacketed it is .410". Don't know why most of the manuals are wrong on this.

+1 on the RCBS 210 SWC. It's my bullet for magnum level velocities. I use the Lee TL410-210-SWC and the Lee TL410-175-SWC for light target loads and the "medium" range load. All three have worked out well in a variety of .41 magnums (S&W and Rugers). Like a fool I let my Lee 410-195-SWC go when I traded off my M58. A couple of the few trades I truly regret.

My favorite? Either my Lyman 410459 or my MP 258 (H&G clone) with an honorable mention to my Accurate 411255v.

I also like my NOE 213230 LFN design. It's proven to be very accurate.

There is also my MP 411640 and 413640 that have been pretty awesome.

Do you like Keith, WFN, LFN or other type designs?

Thanks for the responses. I am not really partial to any design, since I primarily just hunt paper. Easy one-shot kills on those every time! I like the looks of both the Keith and WFN designs, but I also like the ease of the Lee TL designs. I will probably start with a Lee and then look for either a wadcutter or perhaps the Accurate 41-210T.

I have this mold Lyman 410459A and have never used it. I was wondering what dia. it casts.

I want to use it in an Old Mod. Blackhawk which has a larger groove dia. than the throats (barrel slugs .4119" and throats at .4117" measured with a mic) I checked with cylindersmith and he said that even if he still did .41 Magnum he could not help because the throats were larger than his reamer.

If I can get the throats reamed to .413 or .4135" then I would need a boolit of .413". Does that sound right?

I have the Lee TLWC and an MP .410-200 Cramer and they both cast smaller than the BH throats.

Can anyone offer suggestions?

if the barrel is .4119, just get the cylinder to go at .4125 would by my humble suggestion. No need to gl all the way to .413.

but if you do, then yes get a .413 bullet

look at NOE's list of 41's, there is bound to be something you like.

I'd try a softer alloy like range scrap (8 to 10 BHN) sized to .412

Right now I don't have a mold which casts that large.

I long ago shot the factory lead load and it leaded badly.

Most of those soft lead, swaged factory loads in .41, .44, and .357 did lead badly.
