Finally finished my AR build, most parts obtained via barter!

Took me 2 years to collect all the pieces, barrel was the final piece this week. Bartered a bunch of laser engraving to collect bits and pieces. Barrel I ended up paying for but I am sure my gun dealer will order more engraving down the road so I will get that cash back. DPMS lower via barter, no name slick side upper that someone had here cheap last year I think it was. DelTon BCG I bartered for, buffer parts were barter, hand guard I ended up buying with a gift certificate. Barrel is a heavier profile from DEX, it is a match grade 1:9 fluted. http://www.shop.dezarms.com/product....&categoryId=27 my gun dealer uses them for all his custom builds. It has been a long project and a good learning experience in AR assembly.

    Nice Mary.

What do you plan to do for sights/optics?

I like that flat top. Looks good. Throw a bipod and a nice scope on their and start busting chucks, pdogs, clays, cans, etc at distance. Woot Woot. Gotta love bartering. Great work MaryB. Your patience has paid off.

Put an AR optics 3-12x40 on layaway, might pay it off next month. Can't shoot until then anyway. Get stitches out of my right hand the 1st.

IIRC the young lady donated several of her lazer projects for site support a year or so ago.

But OLD age may be clouding my memory or possibly because it is past my nap time.

Bill your memory isn't flawed even if it is your nap time.

    Nice!

A word of caution, do not start looking at other calibers in the AR-15 platform. It will snowball quick into 300 Blackouts, 6.5 Grendels, and a big bore like a 458 SOCOM or even the 50 Beowulf. Darn it...I shouldn't have even told you the names. These rifles are like tinker toys once you build one you want to do it again.

Nicely done - now you can work on a second upper to work on the lower - then a 2nd lower for the extra upper - then you'll have an additional one - then just lather, rinse and repeat - after your first half a dozen it's a now brainer.

Already have a spare barrel.... and when my gun dealer gets in some of his custom lowers picking one up. Want to do some fancy engraving and display it at his shop for a few weeks. And I also have an AR-10 lower sitting on the bench... yes they breed and parts keep appearing.

I love parting together AR's.....but my wallet and caviar taste can't keep up. The blackouts are awesome for us boolit casting case trimming fools. I have a stripped lower and Eotech in the safe already planned out down to the last pin, destined to be a blackout pistol but my dern boys need luxuries like food and clothes. I have not done an AR-10 yet, but a .243 build would keep me busy for at least a year.

    Mary,

You are a credit to women in general and especially women that enjoy the art of putting things together and enjoying the act of shooting. Your also a credit to the forum here. Keep up the good work!

Very nice build Mary. The free float handguards help accuracy a lot. An ACOG on top lets it be a lot faster to use also, but it's pricy. On the AR-10 an 18" to 20" barrel is much easier to use and easier on the ears.

AR-10 will likely take me a year or so to collect parts, try to barter and trade for as much as I can!
