Here's one my wife and I actually drive. Well in good weather.
Not my ride but belongs to a good friend who has allowed me to drive it a few times
His latest project-a very early Sherman rescued from a military firing range and filled to the the turret hatches with concrete
The 'new' transmission which was rebuilt in 1956 waiting for a trial fitting. Some of his other toys in the background.
In another shed there are various halftracks, DUKW's, Deuce and a half's, Wreckers, Willys jeeps and a Hellcat!
Something a little different...mostly standard, custom box on the rear, ooga-ooga horn, very high mpg, easily serviced. Gets me there and back.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.
We sold our highly modified 57 Chevy pickup...the 5 speed and high output engine finally got to be just too much for old folks (I'm 76)...We had fun with it..won some trophies and blew the doors off some kiddies when the need arose...but it's gone to Arizona with a new owner....needed something to fill the hole in the garage and something that was nice, simple, easy to drive and a big 'go get ice cream car"...so we picked up an all original 73 Cutlass Supreme with only 71K on it...has been in a super hot/dry climate and pretty much garaged all it's years...it had faded some and the original vinyl top was starting to look blotchy and faded so it's been repainted and has a brand new vinyl top...all the rest is original and it drives like a parade float....perfect for the old duffers.

Wow, some great rides there folks! While ours isn't perfect, here is a few pics of my "Daddy - Daughter" project car. Got is as an old, stripped down, drag car when my daughters were 10 yo. They are 13 now (damn where do the years go?) and we have spent many a late night in the garage getting the car on the road. I gotta say, it has been a fantastic experience spinning wrenches and sourcing the old parts with my kids.

thanks pal. Im checking out the duster above. My first new car was a 72 duster 340 4 speed duster about the same colar blue as my vette. Loved that car and seeing one brings back memorys of being in the service. Probably the best times of my life. I was young and beat the stuffing out of that duster
Hey Lloyd Smale, sounds like you and I attended the same driving school "back in the day". Though we were taught to "drive the snot out of em"
Way back when, I was in my old Nova which ran pretty good, one night I got my butt handed to me Duster 340 4spd. Never forgot that race. When the chance to buy one came up a few years ago I jumped on it. It is a 340/4-speed car. It has the original 340 in it but the 4-speed was swapped to a built 727, reverse MVB etc. at some point during it's racing career. We'll eventually track down a 4-speed for it someday (still has the clutch pedal in it lol), but until then we'll continue to get the old girl finished while we enjoy that stout hi-revving little hi-compression 340. My daughters can't wait until they're old enough to take "their" Duster to RT66 Dragway for some 1/4 mile action.

bought mine new and between racing at the track and racing on the street it was about done for at 50000 miles. Straw that broke the camels back was when this young sailor had a few (lot) to many and was doing some drifting in a culdysack (spelling) and slamed into a curb about staight on and bent the frame. I made two attemps to straighten it and then just traded it in on a new short box stepside 75 chev that soon afterward had a 427 that i had for a few years shoehorned into it. Mine was a 4sp blue with a white stripe and a black bucket seat int. I used to laugh about that duster. I think in the 50k i owned it i put more clutches in it then all the other cars ive owned combined. Even had to rebuild the tranny at 30k. Way to much power shifting.
If memory is correct I believe that the good running 340's usually did the 1/4 mi in the low 14's at around 90 mph. Nothing special by todays standards but back then the average muscle car like a GTO came off the factory floor and ran the same time. I remember the first time I came across one on the street as I had heard so much hype about how fast they were but it was no match for my warmed over 67 Fairlane 390 4 speed.
The main thing is you like what you have and when it starts to get slow you can always shoe horn in a 440.
