When it hits the fan it all comes down to knowledge. That is more important and you can take more of that with you than anything you can prep for or take with you. In fact the more you know the less you have to pack. If you don't have a axe or knife you can make one if you know how. Same goes for almost every element of the survival game. With the internet all the information you could ever want and more than you could ever remember is at the push of a button. But with one EMP/solar flare/ flip of a switch that information is uncontainable. The most important part of prepping/ bug out bags is the most overlooked, a 3 ring binder you make with all kinds of information you gathered. If you don't have one, make one before the internet crashes, there is no electricity, or you are away from both! In mine I have designs for water purification systems, how to run a gas motor off of wood smoke, all kinds of antibiotics you can get with out a prescription and what they are used for. It's about 200 pages and I'm still adding to it, it's great you know what to do but does your wife know, what happens if something happens to you? It would be good for everyone else in your group to have a manual!

There will be NO computers or cell phones. Even without an emp you will not get on the net. How can you without power? Even if you have battery power, they wont have power to send a signal.
We've been collecting books for the last year and 1/2 on how to do EVERYTHING.

Soap making, butchering, tool making, food preserving, smoking meat, gardening, seed collecting, survival, homesteading, home remedies, self sufficiency and many, many more.

I think its a good thing to have. Besides these books we have several hundred other books to keep ourselves from getting too bored. Westerns, mysteries, comedy, fiction and non fiction.

Unfortunately, too many people in the IT field, have deaf ears. Congress is hopeless since it's mostly composed of lawyers. The author's track record for predictions is good. There will be computers, and they will be extremely useful. What you don't want is the latest i-gadgets with software that is Internet dependent. Windows XP is about the latest O/S to be running.

If TSHTF, it won't be reading material that keeps you from being bored. Subsistence farming is mountains of work, 24/7/365.

In any kind of major SHTF event, cell towers and internet will be switched off first to restrict communication. Whether they would ever be switched back on depends on the outcome. Doesn't take a CME or EMP.

If you have others in your family or group that you would need/want to communicate with, you should all have a plan to deal with a situation where you cannot communicate. For example, already knowing where everyone will meet up. One is none.
