Powder coating for subsonics

I am new to casting within the last year. Up to this point I have been casting for handguns only. I have just cast my first rifle bullets. I am using the Lee 300blk mold which casts a 230 BT. I had great success with these as subsonics. The goal is to use them with a suppressor in my Rem 700 .308 AAC for hog hunting. I have a five shot group
Below that was shot at 75 yards. I had one shot that I pulled high. Other than that it is a 3/4in group. 930 fps average. Loaded them over 7.8gn of Trailboss. They are just a little louder than my .22 at that speed.

I left out some info on these bullets. I used HF black applied with the HF ES gun. I did coat these twice, once for the bottom and once to get the nose. These do not have GCs. I have since done some leaving the nose exposed. I plan to shoot one of each into a wet pack this weekend to see what kind of damage each one creates.

I have not had an opportunity to put together a wet pack yet. Weather should be good Thursday for the testing.

For subsonic speeds you need very little, if any lube.
.22 LR is a good example, they are supersonic, lead boolit, and no leading.

I am talking about putting together a thick stack of loose bound magazines soaked in water to shoot. It is as close to ballistic gel as I am going to get.

.22 LR is a good example, they are supersonic, lead boolit, and no leading.

Some people may not have a luber/sizer and coating is easier and less messy than pan/tumble lubing.
Some people like "Purdy" bullets.
Some people may be using a bullet feeder and want a slick bullet.

Do you think your 7.62x35 will humanely down a hog? They are very tough animals. Try to calculate energy at different distances using boolit weight and velocity as well as expansion and penetration. Is that what you want to confirm using your wet pack tests? Good luck and report back.
I use the same setup out of an AR but with higher velocities (not subsonic and not powder coated, yet, and under 50 m). At any rate I pass on anything other than a heart/lung shot and wait for better opportunities

The Lee 230 might not be the best choice for a hunting boolit. This one was fired from 300 blackout through a suppresser at sub speed through 2 wet phone books, a container of dirt, and into a bucket of water. Not much expansion

What alloy were you using? Did it drill through or did it tumble some? I'm playing with something like that and looking to see how soft I can go.

The alloy is some soft range lead (bhn 8). I water dropped the boolits out of the mold and water dropped after cooking. Final bhn was about 8, they only had a couple of days of cure time. I was thinking about making another batch without the water drop, they should be quite a bit softer
