Its been a long time since I went through the cast boolit dreams. Years ago I had been shooting large bore cast and have since killed many if not most of my "extra" does at the end of the season with cast. I never worried about expansion. I just cast out of wheel weights. I did use my 32 Special one year and used the water quenched wheel weights with the RCBS boolit. I had one go down in a reasonable time, and the other ran off (250 or so yards) with a good double lung hit. I was not impressed and have avoided the 30 caliber pursuit with cast. I knew I could develop the loads more, as I may not have had much expansion at all. I bought a CZ527 last year, and noticed it loves cast (loves everything). I developed several loads with NOE 314 155. I poured several soft tips last Summer and worried about what speed to shoot them. I actually heated up 6 small pellets to use as the tip and followed after cooling with straight wheel weights that I then water quenched. The load with H322 went along about 2350fps. and I did get good expansion in water jugs at 250 yards. I planned on up to 200 yards, and as it turns out, my son took the shot right at 175 yards. The gun is good for 3 inches at 200 yards, and has been a favorite ever since I got it.
This is an exit wound
This below is an entry into the lungs.
My one example there was shot into water jugs (don't know if that is any good), and lost its tip. Just about exactly what I had in pure lead. I didn't recover the boolit from this morning. The buck went 20 yards and went down hard. I was very impressed with the wound track. I'm sure that it might damage a shoulder, but didn't have any problems with a rib. I also looked carefully for the front remnants of the bullet, but they made it through as well.
