    Matched Pair

I now own two Rock Island Armory M1911s, my top one is in 45ACP and the bottom pistol, which I picked up today is in 9mm Luger. I plan on purchasing additional barrels in 40 Corbon and 38 Super relatively soon for additional shooting fun.

I'm looking forward to getting to the pistol range sometime in the future to see if the 9mm pistol shoots as well as the 45 does.

Oh, and these are my Army Retirement gifts to myself. I need to find some USMC and US Army grips in the future as well.

Congratulations on your retirement! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine...

On the 9x19 conversion to .38 Super, just make sure you've got enough room for the extra 4mm of length required for the .38 Super before you buy the barrel. You also have to make sure the magazines will fit.

The .400 Cor-Bon conversion is easy, since it only takes a barrel, and possibly a recoil spring.

    Hope this helps.

the 38 super is an offered barrel from RIA on the 9mm frame. It only requires the barrel and a 38Super magazine as the 9mm Magazine has a crimp in the magwell to prevent the bullets from sliding forward from recoil. The 400 corbon will be fun to play with as well.

I've been finding the discussion on the .22 tcm interesting. At some point it appears you could get a barrel and drop it in to your 9mm for some small caliber fun. Just another option!

yep, that's another option Got to get the 38 Super barrel first and then perhaps the 22TCM. My 1911 9mm is a GI Model so its a single-stack and RIA sells the 22TCM/9mm combo with their hi-cap frames so it might be a different feedramp geometry on the 22TCM barrel but if someone else has done it than I might do the setup as well. Its #3 in barrel purchase order at the moment.

I did a simular conversion on a Springfield Armory 1911 in 9mm that i changed to 38 super with a Kart EZ fit barrel & bushing & 2 Wilson 10 round 38 super mags , every thing else worked fine.

Thanks Bob for the confirmation of my plan Glad to see someone else has already blazed the trail on this idea. Do you load to 38 Super or 38ACP levels?

9mm from a full size steel 1911 is a lot of fun. I assembled a Springfield Armory top end to go on my Delta Elite back about 1992 or so.

Using a four cent gov't surplus recoil spring (how'd that get in there?) there was vitually no muzzle rise, at least compared to .45 Ball or any 10mm load.

... As my brothers always used to say, it fell off a truck or i got it from my uncle!

Bruce, as always, thank you for your service, enjoy your pistols and retirment in good health.
Some people see a 1911 in anything but .45 ACP and get mad, i see a 1911 in anything and want to shoot it! That 9mm/.38 Super combo should be a sweet setup, i have always thought either caliber was sweet in a 1911! Things like the .400 Corbon really do hot rod a a handgun, it is amazing to me what bottlenecked rounds can do out of a pistol.
    Enjoy!

I load at both leveles as i also have a 1911, 38 super race gun.
My load for the regular 1911 is 5.0 gr HS6 powder @ 900 fps with the Saeco #929 145gr SWC , sized @ .357 dia
I have 2 , 125 gr RN moulds but the Saeco#377 125gr TC and the #929 145gr swc are the most accurate from all of my 9mms & 38 supers all sized @.357 dia.

90 days out from retirement today! Can't wait. Bob, thanks for the load data. I've got dies and the 38 Super barrel coming shortly but I'll be working out of the country for most of March so most load development will have to wait until April or after I retire in May.

Spoke to RIA on Friday. the 22TCM is only sold for the double stack pistols as the feed ramps for the barrels are not cut for the Single Stack pistols.
Took the oldest boy shooting yesterday. He loves the 9mm RIA as much as me.

Thank you for your service, I'm Air Force but don't hold that against me . 2 of my boys are Army one is still in. The Rocks are great solid guns I have "a few" the 22 tcm is great fun and the double stack frame fits my hand real good. I have a 2011 tactical model with a 400 corbon barrel https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ulu6u0mom...2020.27.13.jpg that I have shot 1000s and 1000s of rounds out of all loaded to 10mm loads and it is holding up great. You will not be disappointed with your purchases

Thanks for your service, all... Am I the only one with an RIA that has horrible POA accuracy out of the box?

Maybe 50 rounds through the gun, an 18"~ low at 20 paces. Fixed sights sure (carbon copy of the lower gun posted above, in .45 ACP).

    Anyone?

Poa has been very good on all my rocks out of the box, I did have to send my latest one back to the good folks in Parhump for a feed issue. They are extremely responsive and very easy to deal with . I will keep you posted on the outcome but I expect it to be very good. Lower the blade on that front sight some and you should be able to get on target , hows the windage?
