    SR7625 Powder Question

I usually shoot Universal powder in my 357 Marlin and Ruger Blackhawk. My typical cartridge is a Lee 158-grain RNFP loading with 5.8 grains of Universal with a magnum primer. Due to the powder shortage I've had a hard time getting Universal, but was able to find IMR SR7625. SR7625 looks to be very similar to Universal, except it is single based and burns a little slower. I figure an equivalent loading would be about the same 5.8 grains
    that I'm using now.

Does anyone have any experience with SR7625, and any thoughts or observations on its performance?

    Thanks,

    --Jeff

I use it in 45acp. Meters well, burns nice. Not as frugal as some other powders.

Don't need the magnum primer, Jeff. That and PB powder are made as very porous powders. Ignition is the best of all powders, so SHOULD be less position sensitive than the rest. ... felix

    Jeff -

    Howdy !

I've always thought of SR7625 as more of a shotgun powder ( as in 16 ga ).

By any chance, have you ever tried IMR4756 in .357Mag ? Skeeter Skelton recommended 7.0gr under a 158SWC.

The load is a tad " Sooty", but accurate & economical.

    For full-tilt .357Mag, I use 14.5gr WW296 ( H110 same stuff ) and SP MAgnum primer; under Lyman SWCs of 158 - 172gr

    With regards,
    357Mag

I use it in 9mm, 38 sp and 357 with good results, in light loads too. Seems to leave things a bit dirtier after firing but I've developed some good accurate loads with it.

My burn rate chart says it is a bit faster than Universal although I know the burn rate charts don't always agree. I've only had this powder for a short time but find my Blackhawk likes it in .45 acp with the .452488.
