    M-Die Suggestions

I purchased M-dies for 30, 357 and 44 caliber. The instructions didn't seem that clear to me so I set the dies to expand the mouth of the case just enough to have the bullet drop in about half-way up the gas check before resisting. It seemed to work well with the .44 Rem Mag rounds I loaded. Any suggestions?

That sounds like a bit much. I set mine so there is just enough flair to get the boolit base started.

I do it the same way for loading the Lyman 257420 in .25-20, with the M-die adjusted properly, there really isn't much flare to the case.

I flare just enough so the boolit doesn't get shaved when pushed into the case mouth. I think the less you work the brass the better

I will back off a bit. I was also concerned about tension on the bullet if I over expanded the mouth.

It should expand the case and just bell the mout enough to start the boolit. Your setup sounds good, just back a tiny bit.
