T/C system 1... anybody have one? Where to start?

I picked one up today in good condition, has a little rust in the action, but I'm sure I can polish it out.

I was going for something a bit newer, but the walnut stock spoke to my soul...

It is set up for percussion caps, is there that much advantage to switching to 209?

Anybody know the twist rate? My preference is to go with a full bore projectile, cast myself, useable for deer and elk.

I'm planning on using bp, going "old school inline", if you will.

This is my first frontstuffer, and I know I have a lot to learn. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a stainless .50 cal. Mine hates anything other than sabots. It has very shallow rifling. I shoot a 235 gr .40 cal ballistic tip from Precision Extreme. I use a musket cap on mine. You can get a conversion to 209 primers from Midway. I never had any problems with regular primers with mine.

They came about in 1997, 4 Barrels were offered, 32-50-54-and 58, I have 3 Barrels, no 32 cal, all 3 of mine shoot the Maxi Balls good, also had 12ga Barrel, 50-54-58 had 1-38 twist, 32 had 1-48. 50 and 54 Rifles were offered in Stainless also.
