    First casting from newbie

    Hello
I got all the materials together tonight and casted a few 45-70 bullets. Got a lot to learn guys but all in all Im pleased that I finally got around to trying it. The mold was a Lee 405gr hollow base and lead was range lead from a member on here. They dropped at 459 just like I wanted, and they are a little heavy 407 to 413. I am going to throw most back in and try again tomorrow. I want to say Thanks to all who have helped, and for the great forum we have here to learn from. Any ideas from the picture it help a newbie out?

Rounded bands and wrinkling are caused by a mould that hasn't reached its optimum casting temperature. Wrinkles are caused by a mould that hasn't been cleaned properly or enough.

Clean the mould and pre-heat it, using a hot plate. A hot plate and mold oven is even better.

Toss them back in the pot and go at it again.

This is how you learn. Cast some more, lube em, load em, go shoot em. Nothing quite so fun as shooting the first bullets you cast yourself.

Well finally got everything working good for the 2nd attempt, the hollow base bullet was a little harder to keep everything hot enough. The 500gr bullet was a lot easier to work with. Got plenty enough casted for the new gun. Now I have to find the best way to lube them. Thanks for the help

    What gun is the 45-70?
And what load are you going to use?
