Just about enough lead to make thru this season

Last week I had a meeting with some (Dutch) antique gun collectors. Most of us complained about the increase of lead prices and that it was harder to get your hands on it. One of the guys who was there also said he had a metal recycling company, just about a 30 min drive from my home.

He invited us and today we (myself and a good friend of mine) drove to him, not expecting that much of it. Man we were totally wrong, the guy had over 60 metric tons of lead! He sold it to us for 65 Euro cents (USD = 86 cents) per kilogram. We could pick the best and finest lead we could find, man we were like kids in a candy store. The only limit was the weight carrying capacity of our cars…....

No more worries about finding lead and that for a super price, so many hours of bullet casting with my son is coming up.

There is a rule about pornagraphy on this site you know.

Congrats on the find...it would have cost me a new suspension for my pickup

I took exactly 500 kilograms with me, a bit more and the cars suspension would fail.

Impressive!!!! What a find! I'm still looking for that bar (that I just know exists somewhere around here) that all the metal recyclers hang out at, so I can buy them drinks and befriend them.

Good find! Next best thing to free lead is cheap lead. Congrats, My local scrap yard usually has from 0 to 300# when I'm there. He ships out what he has every Tuesday. I can get lead and zinc for $.50 USD per lb. When he has any. WOW, that 60 metric ton is a lot! 10 ga

I too stepped into a bucket of s**t
While on vacation, was talking with a friend about the line of business he is in. All I knew previously was it was construction. Come to find out he specializes doing construction work for hospitals. Mentioned, let me know if you have any lead you are taking out of radiation rooms. He said ... "I just removed 4 tons for a new room at a hospital I was working on. I'll save you all the lead in the future. You can have all the new scrap pieces too. All you have to do is haul it away."

Guess I'll be renting a storage unit - a big one!
    Regards
    John

The scrap yard owner does not only has this regular (soft) lead, he also has Linotype (letter lead), Tin, Antimony and a lead melting (fluxing) oven that throws out 30kilogram lead bars (clean, pure and all). The bad thing: I can't handle these large bars to be placed in my melting oven (RCBS and a Lee). After 25 years casting and always strugling to get some good lead, this guy walks into my live, could not be more pleased.
