The cheek saver is This one from BACO. It gets my head up high enough on the 600+ yard targets and still maintain contact with the stock.

I have one of the Harbor Freight boxes, I use it too hold my leather working tools. It is OK, but I wouldn't expect it to hold up to too much use carrying it to the range and stuff. I also have my Dad's old machinist's chest. Looks just like a Gerstner but is actually a Union Tool Chest brand. Here is a pic of it with the front removed. I inherited it full of my Dad's old tools, most of which I don't know what they are.

The tall, narrow drawer in the center was designed to hold a copy of the Machinist's Handbook.
If you have rust issues with the tools, putting a block of camphor (used to be available from the druggist) in one of the drawers will protect everything in the box and last for years.
The Gerstner website used to have a video/slideshow of the steps it takes to make one the old-fashioned way.

Thanks for the tip Rick... yes my dad had and they are still in there , some notes and reference material in that drawer .
E- mail response from Gerstner : don't have records of exact manuf. dates but can date it within ten years , penceld numbers on the bottom inside signify individual chest as each drawer has same number for ref. in application to that particular chest ..... for fifty dollars and some pictures , will date it for you.
ooookaaay , on that note, guess I will date it myself thank you. .....
Looked up Gerstners on E-bay ,,,,, there are a few out there ....

I've always wanted a toolbox like that but could never justify the price of a Gerstner original. I bought two of the Harbor Freight boxes and use one as a "jewelry" box in my bedroom. I use the other for office supplies near my desk. I really love those boxes but you carried it one step further and made a useable range box. Nice project!

Very nicely thought out and executed. Certainly better than my Plastic tub.

Excellent idea and execution, looks heavy, is it?
Was it hard getting the rubber wood to match the chest?
Actually it would make a fine cleaning box for home too.
Are you going to glue some felt in the U groves?..be pretty
nice.
