Bt_Sniper. Another PM sent. I hope you got the first payment. The next is going to be sent Monday. I have extra cash so would like to add the 40 from 9mm to the order as well. Could you send the total amount now over the amount i still owe you. The PM says how much I am sending. And will I need another expander plug as weell as dies? thank you.
"Just try to remember which end makes the bad guys go away."
This all looks very intriguing, I'm thinking of getting into this for the .458's, but alas the .40's for 10mm and the .45's all look good. I can spend a bunch up front to start making my own....
Are you thinking of making any kits?
everything you need to make "X", than add on to make "Y" etc.?
Thank you so much, enjoying reading and trying to get a grip on all of the possibilities, Ray
Been machining dies all week. I have more then 200 of them ready for heat treat. I'll be taking them in on Monday and should have the dies back by Friday.
I still have a couple 30 cal dies in final assembly to send out to a few very patient customers (thank you buy the way).
Almost every die on order anyone has with me is in this batch of dies heading off to heat treat. Just to mention a few, 40, 44, 45, .458, .475 .500 in pistol or big bore calibers and 22, 243, 264 (prototype), and 338 in the riffle calibers, hopefully a 204 prototype if I get time to machine one. I have a set of .358 riffle caliber dies in the works too.
The results are perfect and I am that much closer to shipping your order. All I need to do now is final polish and final assembly.
Thank you all for your patience and support.
Merry Christmas
Brian

With the expanding die, is the issue of using cast boolits with large or too many lube grooves taken care of?
I remember reading that they could cause issues if they had large lube grooves, and you thought TL boolits would be better.
But since I'm pre-squishing the lead into the jacket is that not an issue?
Thanks!

"Just try to remember which end makes the bad guys go away."
if you want as close to perfect as possible you'll want to have a core swage die made.
in the 40 to 44 dies most use the lee 40 S&W t/l 6 cavity mold mainly for speed of production,as well as for case fill out.
it's already big nuff and doesn't have the lube grooves which is air you have to push out of the case.
i use a 180 gr. 357 boolit that is fairly close in shape to the final product, i put a little squish on the boolit before seating it as the core and the boolits come out nicely filled and shaped.
i then add the hollowpoint in a second point forming step, this assures the lead flows properly into the right places.
of course your core material will make a difference in how things play out,i use 22lr bullet lead for my 44's and cut with soft [pure] 50-50 for my 223's.
there is a pressure limit you have to work within also.
So even though it's a one step die, I can swage them, then add the Hp after? I understand using the core seater is one step, and the XTP die is another.
But if I want to, I can swage the bullet after those steps, then add the HP after?

Del-Ray, if I understand correctly, it is the ejection punch in the swage die that adds the hollow point. If I am incorrect, someone please step in....
1. we expand the annealed 9mm case with the expanding mandrel in universal die.
2. drop a 120 grain core into case and push it to bottom of case using same mandrel and universal die
3. BTX (XTP) notch the top of the jacket
4. form bullet in BTSniper 40 cal one step die. It forms the bullet and HP all in one step. As NHrifle stated it is the ejction punch of the die that forms the HP. If you wanted to make flat points you would need a different ejection punch in the die.
Don't worry I provide you all the instructions you need and samples to show you each step of the way.

You know BT.... Sometimes I think you're trying to make this to easy so I'll just buy more dies from you....
I've got that 45 that needs bullets too...
And my 45-70 guide gun could sure use some of those .458s.....
No! No! I've got to get my first two sets first! And maybe another Ar or two......
Dang it!
"Just try to remember which end makes the bad guys go away."
the way i explained it seems more difficult than it really is.
i add the extra step because of the core i use.
i could and have seated the core then swaged the point.
and have just dropped the core in the case and swaged a boolit too.
i just found a short-cut/upgrade [whichever] to suit the end result i desire from the finished product.
theres a lot of flexability here.
Hi Brian would you be willing to make a pinch off die for trimming 30 caliber jackets? Gerry M
Brian,
This might be a silly question since you have outlined in your post the dies you currently are building. I would like to start creating projectiles for my 32 winchester special. However I haven't found any dies or info to support my quest. Any help would be greatly received.
PM sent regarding order inquiry.
shooter:
the 32 [like the 30-30]will do everything you want it to with plain ole gas checked cast boolits.
they in fact will surpass jaxketed bullets in almost every area depending on the work you want to put into them.
Runfiverun,
It sounds like swage'n the larger calipers is a better option. Hence the reason I don't find dies or info to do a 32wsp?
i somewhere got an old ideal 170gr single cavity mold that apparently was /is for the 32 win. [i believe lyman still makes it]
i have used it in my 8 mauser for years and more recently in my 32 win, i size/check to 324 for both of them.
if brian made a die to swage 5.7 brass or 312 tubing up to 323 in a 170gr spire point or 5-S round nose [preferred] i'd be all over one too.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. My girls loved it. What a precious sight to see a couple 6 year olds enjoy Christmas.
It was a busy week and I'll be back to work hard at it getting eveyone's dies put together just as soon as I can.
Thank you all for your support and patience.
Good shooting and Swage On!
Brian
