I have had decent results loading WC860 under 150 grainers in the .270 WBY. However, it was far more temp sensitive than anything else I've used. Well over 100 fps difference from 20 deg F to 80 deg F. Just something to keep in mind.

my mil book shows for m48 round single base
Pretty sure there is a mix up somewhere in that because 7383 is very definitely not your typical single base IMR stick propellant. Which exact book are you referencing so I can look into it further. I am wondering if maybe there is some confusion with 7828.

I just got off the phone with Mike at the Hodgdon plant. I asked him if he had any knowledge about this powder. The only source of documentation he had came from Cartridges of the World, 11th Edition.
I have the 12th edition and looked it up. Below is what I found.
m48a2 has the imr-7383 a slower single base powder from imr 4831 i have a nsn manual were my info came mfg # 10534781-3 so you can load using imr 4831 data
Grady, can you photograph the page and put it up for us? I'd really like to read it.
Looks like I could use my 7383 to load for the '03A3. Not sure from what I read if I would want to use that powder in the 338 Lapua or 30-378 Wby, may have to use one of the other surplus powders for those.
I've worked up several loads for .30-06 with 7383. And some other mid size case calibers, too. There's a good bit of data under the 7383 pages on Castpics.
email for a copy of the data
i sent 2 just now let me know if you both rec thks g
yes imr7383 fit bet 4350 4831 for loading i used it for 50 cal acc sabo work back yrs ago filled it to the top an pressed the 50cal sabo / 30 cal fmj an got about 4300 ft a second as far as hitting any thing thats an other story but was a ballistic test this is were i got into the 7383 at
Thanks Grady. Looks like another myth(mystery) solved. I too have loaded 223 to 7mm Rem Mag with it, and just about everthing inbetween, still shoot it in 30/40 Krag.

see if some one here that has a copy now i have sent them can post it its nothing more than a bulky 4831 an surplus sellers has sold a tons of it over last 20 yrs it came from the 50 spotter round when us gov demiled it all its a single base powder they is no use ever to contact the powder companys out there they will not tell you any thing atcept what new powder that is current they sale for info as bulky the 7383 is you can most of the time will have a compressed load before any over pressure in most loads over the yrs since it was available seen it loaded in every thing from .223 to 50 cal bmg
Thanks, Wheeler! Man, that triple based myth has been on the books for a long time!
My question now is, is it 7383 or 4831 they used in the spotter/tracer? If it was 4831, where did 7383 come from?
What a can of worms!
The 7383 was used in the 50 cal spotter tracer rounds-M48A1 and M48A2, and in the practice round-T249E2.
IMR-4831 was/is used in the HPT cartridge-T251, and Incendiary cartridge-M23.
The above information taken from TM 43-0001-27, dated June 1981.
