Has anyone used the rcbs .223 small base sizing die and have it size the cartridge neck diameter down to .244? maybe i got a bad one? I know my manual states that the neck diameter should be .253

Just curious as to what brass you are using? Neck wall thickness? Have you tried to load any? I have used a RCBS 223 SB die for many years without problems.

The brass is a mix of remington,Winchester and lake city mostly, the neck wall size ranges from .0114-.0120 and the neck diameter is .255-.256 before sizing. I have loaded a few rounds but i have to hold the bullet all the way till it enters the die in order for it to stay.
My loaded rounds measure .247" with LC brass. Given your neck thickness this sounds about right. Which manual are you working with that gives the .253" dia.?
