I too think that you should turn up the temp on your pot. I keep mine between 700 and 800 degrees for best fill out and smooth operation. DOn't put another pot on top of your existing one. You're only asking for trouble here. I run 2... Lee pro 4 20's side by side. Cast from one while the other is heating up fresh ingots. No need to preheat them with this method. When you finish with the first pot, refill it and start casting from the second as it should be hot and ready to go.

I run mine @ 710 with the PID. I want to add a big chunk of steel or brass around the nozzle to keep it hotter.
