.35 Rem loads for Marlin micro-groove

Howdy guys-

My Sweetie (she's a keeper) fixed me up with an early father's day gift - a lovely Marlin 336 in .35 Remington!

Looking for load data I find pretty slim pickin's for CB loading and mostly pretty dated type info from when they treated CB's as if they were second class projectiles.

Could you please share some of your experience as to what can be reasonably be expected velocity wise, what BHN has worked best for micro-groove, powder candidates, etc. I'm thinking of a 200 to 215 gr. range GC boolit and want to get a feel for what's worked best for a hunting level load. Also any experiences with plain base boolits and what you've been able to wring out would be of interest.

The rcbs 35-200 has worked great for me. 33-35 grs 748, 26 - 29 grsh4198 and 32-36 grs of BLc-2 have been some of my favorite loads in 2 35 Rems that have Ballard rifling In is a 336SC and the other the 24" barrel 336A. That bullet with 35 grs of BLc-2 will go thru 2 of our blacktails out here and keep going. No plain base except for the Lyman 35875 and I wasn't impressed with the 100 yd accuracy. Mark

For a microgroove barrel you'll probably have better luck with GC bullets for full throttle hunting loads.

Thank you Lloyd! The only changes that I would make to that article (which was written several years ago) is that since that time I have gotten a couple of moulds that are very useful for the .35 Remington.

First was the Saeco #356 200 grain GC-FP, which is as good, or slightly better (depending on which rifle I'm shooting it out of) than RCBS's fine 35-200-GCFP. Over 38.0 grains of H335, either of these bullets makes a hard-hitting, accurate hunting load.

The other new addition (in terms of .35 Rem moulds) was a 358315, that I modified to drop HP bullets. After playing around with HP configuration, I have settled on a design that expands rapidly and leaves 110-120 grains to punch on through the other side. I haven't shot anything with this bullet yet, but I have every reason to believe that it should flatten deer/antelope with authority. I do know that 36.0 grains of H4895 generates about 2000 fps with this bullet. Accuracy is excellent, and expansion is dramatic.

Thanks for the feedback. As suspected, the .35 Remington with cast should nearly equal the velocities for the full length GC version bullets.

Glen - great article. Thanks for the post of that & the additional update you posted below.

Looks like for now I'll get either the Saeco or RCBS 200 gr. moulds. I've done a layout on Mountain Molds site for a 215gr. design that would have the crimp groove located in proper position for the .35 Rem and have the boolit not extend below the neck. Unfortunately - that will have to wait until Dan is back up and taking orders again.
