Do you leave the old primers in the 9mm?
BT, I'm interested in making 327 Fed and 7.62x54r bullets. What would I need to get set up? What cases should I use? Would this be one die set or two?
Thanks,
singleshot
I can speak for the 7.62X54R... Those would be (depending on your gun, you should check the actual bore dimentions) .312". They could be made from 5.7X28 FN brass.
You would first clean the brass. Then anneal it. Then, run it through a reducing die. Then, expand the neck. Then, drop in a core (made from extruded wire). Then, seat the core. And, finally, swage the bullet into final shape.
The die set would be custom to produce that diameter.

The CH 30 cal die is actually the perfect die to make 327 fed bullets with. The die I have is .311 in diameter as I remember. I can easily polish it out to .312.
The 5.7 would make a good jacket and an exellent bullet. You could also use 50BMG primers to make a half jacketed bullet for fun very cheap shooting.
Cost of my improved CH die set is $385 + $10 S&H.
There are severial threads about the 30 cal bullets made from the CH dies. They will give you an idea of what the bullets look like.
Here is some pics of what I have made in the CH "32" cal die
90-115 grain bullets next to the Sierra 175 grain MK bullet
Here is some examples of the largest bullet the CH dies will make. Obvously more then the 327 needs but it should give you an idea. These where 5.7 jackets @ 155 grains IIRC. Imagine the same thing with the trimmed 5.7 brass at 100 grains and you got a very good looking 327 fed bullet!
Here is the same bullets made with a 50BMG primer to give you a half jacket 100 grain bullet. It is shown in a 30 carbine round.

Those are some good lookin bullets, BT! .312 would work in both calibers for me. I get good results with jacketed in that size. I'm using .314 cast in both calibers currently with good results, but want to have the ability to ramp up the pressure to max levels when needed.
What kind of a press would I need to run all the examples you posted? Would I need a dedicated swage press?
Thanks
Any decent reloading press will work fine. The 32 cal is a small bullet that doesn't take a lot of pressure to make. I make all my bullets on reloading presses and the smaller the bullet the easier it is to form.

5.7x28 brass, huh? I just did a quick search on midwayusa, and they don't even have that listed. Is there any way to use components that are easily found, like 9mm brass? Is it possible to reduce the size enough to make .32 cal bullets? Or increase the size of .22 lr brass? I really like the idea of using spent 50bmg primers. Is there a good place to get those? Unfortunately, I don't own a 50bmg.

BMG spent primers are not to hard to find. Check all the 50 cal shooting forums. Usually you can find some from those that don't have a need for them. Offer some bullets in trade you will probably get more primers then you know what to do with.
5.7 brass can be found. I have a lot that I have scrounged over the years. Usually if yo ucan find it under 7 cents a piece you are doing good and if you can find it for 5 cents you are doing really good. Even trading bullets again is a good way to pick up brass others don't need.
Anything is possible and yes you can reduce 9mm brass to 30 cal but it take a bit of time and effort. Anything is possible bu as far as a cheap solution to teh 32 cal jacket..... well........ I have made them from the cut off top of 223 brass. For fun a simple cheap shooting the 50 cal primers are probably the cheapest option. The 5.7 would make an EXELLENT jacket if you can find them. Severial of us hear collect them , you might be able to offer somthing in trade.

Are you still not stocking .44 dies? Just producing them on demand? (with the 2-6 month wait )
Would there be any extra cost if I requested a custom nose profile (w/ drawing) for the die?

Where's the 45 die sticky? There's 10 more people out here wanting to discuss'
BT Sniper, I think you missed my post earlier. I have a few questions:
Are you still not stocking .44 dies? Just producing them on demand?
Would there be any extra cost if I requested a custom nose profile (w/ drawing) for the die?
Are you only running the .429 dies at .429", or is lapping them out to .430-.431" a possibility?

It certanly would be benifitial for all of you to post results or questions in one thread.
Might start one on your own or check this one out. Gumpa started this one with his set of 45s he got.

In this case there are at least 6 of you with my latest 45 cal dies all exactly the same.
Good shooting

I do have some of my custom 44 cal dies ready to be assembled. Some day I hope to have severial dies assembled and ready to ship. In the case of the 44 I do have some back from heat treat that are ready to assemble. New dies take a while to make and send to heat treat.
Custom nose profile cost depends on just how custom you are talking about. A larger meplat with the same ogive profile.......I can do that. I completly new nose profile will potentialy cost extra. I do intend to have a new reamer made. Let me know what you have in mind maybe somthing can be worked out.
Lapping up is possible. I do have a couple allready over .429 at .4300-.4310 Typicaly I shot for .4290-.4300
Feel free to send me a PM of what you have in mind or post here too.
Good shooting.
