    Ruger All American, 308 Win.

My friend Bryan purchased a Ruger All American today. Seems to be a very nice rifle.

    http://www.ruger.com/products/americanRifle/models.html

His is chambered in 308 Win., seemed natural to come home and mount the scope and load some SAECO # 315 HP's with IMR 4895 for propellant.

1st trip out is fairly impressive :

Bryan's rifle can shoot and so can Bryan ! !

Here I am doing a " little warm up drill " with the rifle :

How's it handle? I like the 3-locking lug configuration that allows for < 90 deg bolt lift but why do you have the scope mounted way up there on quick release rings? Is that just for convenience during bore cleaning?

It's actually kind of an interesting rifle... looks like it has a barrel nut similar to the Savage... and a Savage Accu-trigger. One thing I noticed that I'm not crazy about is the tang safety incorporated into the trigger housing. Perhaps Ruger needed to modify the "Accu-Trigger" design somewhat in order to stay out of the court houses?? I do wish the receiver had a flat top though.

Is the magazine basically all plastic?

I'm missing something here, what do you mean by that?

Sorry, I almost for got about this thread.

When the trigger housing is removed the tang safety comes with it:

http://www.ruger.com/products/americanRifle/extras.html and click on "Exploded View".

Not having been able to examine Ruger's trigger system for this rifle, I would prefer a more conventionally designed trigger housing that would lend itself easily to a quality aftermarket trigger substitution.

Nevertheless, I'd like to try one out in .243.

Latest American Rifleman has a reasonable writeup on it. By reasonable I mean it sounds like a good, factual description. Make your own judgments.

Thanks for that, unusual, but obviously part of the cost saving approach. The trigger is adjustable isn't it?

Which is about right, it is a hunting rifle after all.
