It was fired from a 38 Special case in a sixteen inch Rossi, 3.1 gr. of Bullseye.



It almost made it through a peice of sheet metal and made a pretty neat looking mushroom. I'm not sure of the velocity but this batch is a saeco 5 for hardness, COWW with some stick on WW too. These 162 grainers are fun!

The two in the back ground hit a steel plate. They are air cooled COWW 358156s one at 38 spl and one at mag velocity

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together. These are .44 Magnum (22 grains 2400) fired from my Ruger SRH 7.5" barrel into damp sand at about 15'. Alloy is Lyman's #2.

Thanks for the pictures guys I shoot both of those bullets and have never seen the end results. They look like they will do the job.

Wish I had that 358429 mold,,,but I do not. I have some that were purchased at an estate auction and in a .38 special case with 12 grains of 2400 out of my 4" 686 will do a bit over 1100 fps and are very accurate.

I saw this mold at a gun shop that carrys casting equipment and a selection molds too. It's a 4 cavity that had some lite rusting and it drops .360 to .361

MTgun44 is 5.0 of Unique a heavy load? I used data for the 140 grain wad cutter to get 3.1 of Bullseye. 3.3 extracts a little sticky in my model 10.

I've just looked in my reloading manuals & depending on which lead bullet is listed (158gr) most list 4.7grs of Unique as max. Going back to the old Speer #8, 5grs is a starting load. If it were me, I'd start at 4.5 & looking for pressure signs, work up.

With the Lyman #358429 a load of 5.0 grains is a common +P load for 38 Special. Lyman 4th edition list standard max as 4.2 grains of Unique at 15,500 C.U.P. Old lyman books just listed 5.0 grains Unique as max since we did'nt have such a term as +P yet. The 4.2 grains of Unique is supposed to deliver 841 fps from a 4" barrel universal reciever.

After stating all that you should note that MtGun44's boolit over that 5 gr. charge is a hollow point reduced to 155 grain weight.

When I saw the MtGun44's picture of his 358429 I thought huh, then I saw GLL's pic of his 358429s I thought ooh ooh something smells and I think its me!

I'm sorry for messing this up and using the wrong mold number. I even used both numbers in my load book.

And I added a picture next to the first one in the start of this thread.

5.0 Unique is not a max load in the older load books. No sticky extraction or any
other signs of high pressure. And I do agree that the boolit wt is close to a
158 gr, so that is the data that I use.

The other good info is that this load shoots right to the sights for the ultra light
S&W and is accurate, like in a hurry they all go into 2" at 10 yds. dble action.
