    Favorite 30-30 loads--?

For those of you that shoot the 30-30, think I might pick one up this weekend. what are your favorite boolits and loads for them. Have some plain base boolits I bought and a 31141, 311284, and 30-165sil moulds to try. Thanks

    Rockrat,
You will definitely get a lot of good replies on this thread. Also check out the Gunloads Home Page for the Favorite Loads section and add your own to it.

I like Lee Soupcans with RE7 and Lee 150FN's with RE7 & IMR3031. Bothe have shot well out of my rifles for hunting, cast of WW's and sized .310 and up.
    Born OK the first time.

311041 over 26.0 grains of H335, for about 1950 fps and very good accuracy.

I use a Lyman #311041 with 25 grains of IMR-3031 (1775 fps) for silhouette, sized .309 in a 336 rifle (24 in) and a 36 rifle (24 in), both with ballard rifling. In a 336 SC (20 in) that load is 1675 fps.

The 30-30 is a fine cast bullet round, but I have a question...Is your rifle a levergun, bolt or single shot. This makes a difference in which bullets you can use.

311284 and RCBS 165 SIL are to sharp pointed to be used in a tubular magazine.

311284 is right on the bubble in terms of weight/length for optimum stabilization in the 1-12 twist in 30-30 barrels. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

That leaves 311041 as the best choice for a 30-30 levergun.

16.5 grains of 2400, 4759 or 4227 will all give you good results over an approriate bullet.

I use the 311041 bullet cast from WW and lubed with 50-50 alox and beeswax over 8 gr of Red Dot for a plinking load and the same over 18 gr of AA 5744 for two hundred yard target shooting.

311041 over 18 gr. IMR 4198 for 1550 fps. A very accurate load with the recoil of a .22Mag. Target / small game / deer . If you are one of those who hunt with Pistol caliber levers, this load will do everything a .357 Mag will and more.
