old style vs. new style CH .357 swage dies

Got a customer set of CH dies in .357. It is an older modle in good shape and I think you will all be interested to see the difference between the old version and the new.

The older version has less ogive (left) and a shorter nose while the new version (right) has a longer nose with a higher ogive S number.

    Check out the pics.

If I bore the nose of the new style (right) from .218 to .250 it looks like this. I like the looks of this modification and it allows a bigger HP with a shorter nose!

If we bore the old style up to .250 (left) it would look like this. Personally I don't think we need to bore the older version up to .250. The smaller nose looks pretty good to me.

For those of you with the old style and wish to make the newer version I can certainly offer you a die. For those of you that have the current version I thought it would be fun to see what it used to look like.

    Good shooting and Swage On!

I like your choice in nose/ogive for the sizes that you are doing for me.

The 44 magnum die is perfect. and the modified .40 will be perfect. And, the expectations for the 500 magnum are along the same lines.

Now, the rifle calibers are another matter. Long and pointy, please.

I just thought it interesting that CH from back in the day made a short nose 357 and CH of today makes it so long. Seems to me somthing right inbetween would be perfect for this .357.

Does any one shoot the older style 357 bullets?

I have the .355 set for 9mm and it looks the same as the newer .357 nose.

I guess that they switched from the old to a new design that is similar to the .355 9mm.

I happen to like the design of the sharper nose for autoloading pistols - not so needed in .357.

First set of 357 I got had thelong nose. Matter of fact it was a bit screwed up. It looked like it was the same as the 9mm nose then a bit larger .357 reamer was used to finish it off. It had a bit of a uneven ogive to it.

I like to take the new style .355 or .357 and bore the nose to .250. Shortens the nose a bit and make a bigger meplat for more expansion with a bigger HP.
