I am going to hazard a guess using the data I have and the reference samples given along with reference samples that I had and knew the composition of. I am going to guess the Brinell hardness of the original samples at 16 - 17BNH and I am going to guess the composition of the Alloy at 92% Lead 6% antimony .5% arsenic and 1.5% Tin.

Final results have been updated on post #21

on post #39 2 and 3 are know pb samples that 30-06 had.
16 to 21 are the boolits in question for the testing.

so what were your conclusions? other than the raw data? do you know the alloy etc?

What was the alloy you sent out to us to be tested? Water dropped? All pored at the same time and pot full? With out the starting data it makes no sense. please fill in the holes Thanks Clint

Alloy of these boolits were under question as stated in the original post. I did not make these boolits. Nothing more is known for sure. My goal was to find out the most probable truth through average, along the way learning how in sync different measuring devices are. I was told matter-of-factly that these boolits were straight lino, and if I or anyone else didnt think so, it was just because we did not know what we were doing. The person who made that statment was useing a cabine tree. I use a Saeco, so as you can imagine I questioned if there was something wrong with my Saeco once I tested these boolits.

Well I can tell you they most certainly are not straight Lino. The Lino samples you sent me measured almost 60 rockwell H scale points harder than the sample boolits. The Boolits are good boolits and should shoot well but they are not Lino.

Yes sir, I have been useing straight lino in my .308 struggling to achieve enough velocity with a 200gr. boolit to knock down rams at 500m, but maintain some accuracy, so I am not new to lino. And those boolits arent it.

I realize there is not a lot of data, but what we do have shows a spike for a cabine tree.

Reminds me of a simple survey I was involved with in the 1990's.
    One question:
What part of you do you dry first when you get out of the shower? (IIRC)

The answers were all over the map... uh, so to speak.
    Numbah one answer was face/head.
Technically your hands get dried first. (Unless you have a cute way of picking up the towel with yo face.)

    It was an email poll.
    It was a college project.
The student reportedly got an "A".
    It was gathering email addresses....
I got a lot of spam after I answered that poll...

Thank goodness I'm older and wiser now.
I only bite on good bait.

    But I don't worry.
    Know why?
    I'm armed and dangerous.

PS: The average for the lot I tested comes out to 12.575 BHN
    Just for the record....

Sonny, I like you, you are outside the box! I am going to ask Dan Cash if he will test the same samples that I sent 30-06 for calibration, so to speak.

    He can't.
Unless 30-06 sends the ones you sent him... to Dan.

    It was fun playing.

got them all in the envelope you sent them in sure ill send them on unfortunately I don't still have them segregated. But I dont think it would be to difficult to separate them out hardness testing them.

Ok, thats great. I was thinking about sending new ones, but sending those would be just fine. there should be enough hardness difference to distiguish them from each other without a problem since they are all air cooled.

    Now wait a damn minute!

"unfortunately I don't still have them segregated."

What kind of a bamboozel are you guys tryin to pull?
I was born in the dark (2:32AM), BUT it wasn't last night!

You didn't mark your samples so you could keep track of the individual samples being tested?

    You just FAILED!

    http://home.earthlink.net/~pie/Calka...%20Testing.pdf

And Calkar, do you even have a control group to compare the sent out samples too?

"Wow! very nice! samples were not marked because they are all supposed to be the same alloy (lino). I believe they are water queched Wheel Weight and different chunks of scrap lead throw into the pot at different times to top off the pot, that is why they are erratic. I was told that these bullets are straight lino, and if I didnt think so I basically didnt know what I was talking about. I think your right on with your LEE. Thanks much!"

    I believe I will call
    BULL DROPPINGS!
And you guys ought to stop digging now.

they were segregated when I tested them I opened a packet of a type and did the hardness testing on them. after I had the data I didn't see a need to keep them segregated.

I could go back right now and retest what Calkar sent me, and the records would track.

Gooollllyyy. You guys must have never worked around labs or where your work has to be traceable.

    Well, it's been fun.

Thats right, never worked for a lab and never intend to. There is no ones health or freedom riding on these results, so lets take it easy!
