    Another use for tunbling media.

Any of you guys out there ever use used tumbling media as a flux?

I tried used corn cob (---- ONE TIME----)
    Never again
I think if I were not outside it would have killed me. ( not kidding )
the fumes were noxious and sickening, I only had one whiff of it.
Don't know about clean corn cob. Saw dust is all you need, or perhaps some old wax.
Hate is like drinking poison and hoping the other man dies.

I had the same experience as gray wolf. I had some corn cob media handy and I usually use saw dust, so I just grabbed a handful of corn cob media and dumped it in my pot. Smoke/fumes were thick and truely noxious (I got one breath of the smoke and gagged/coughed violently). I had time to turn on my fans and leave the building. Had to wait 1/2 hour for the smoke to clear...

Thanks for the warning. That sounds like something I would try.

How about walnut? Anyone try that?

I guess that is another bad.
I was thinking about the corn cob media,
as the walnut is poisonous to most animals, and probably people too.

I thought it was the soft hulls that surround the walnuts that was poisonous to fish. I didn't know that it was poisonous to other animals. Don't wild hogs eat them? IDK just thinking here.
The problem in America today is, there are to many fools making to many rules that don't apply to themselves. Now just wait until the new pres. takes office and see what happens!!!!!

I worked in a cabinet shop once and the Amish would not want any saw dust if it had walnut saw dust in it, because it would make there horses sick. I never liked to do walnut jobs because I'd get sick.

Even the roots and leaves are toxic , even to other plants. Not good to compost them for the garden. Elderberry and some others also. I once planted potatoes and turnips next to Elderberries and they were so nasty tasting cows and hogs wouldn't eat them.

I do. I haven't had any problem with it, but it doesn't work as good as sawdust.
