What ww/pure ratio for mo deer

i have cast for pistol and rifle mostly using all ww. Just got a ranch dog 30 cal 168 gr. for my savage 110 30-06. Got 2 doz. of these on a swap and they worked really well. Now I want to cast for hunting deer in MO. and want to know what ratioof ww and pure will be good. Vel is aprox. 1800. The ranch dog has a nice size metplate. . A nice combo. of expansion and penatration would be nice. Most shots are usually less than 100 yards but might need to go to 200 yds.

any and all input will be aprciatited.

    Thanks Mark

50/50 will work well at 1800fps with the proviso that all the usual parameters have been met like fit etc.

    Thanks Von Gruff.

Forgot to mention I will be using gas checks and runing them thru a lee .311 sizer. Also 2 coats of alox tumble lube.

No problem with fit. The samples I tried were .311 with checks and the were very accurate.

CAST SOFT (10bhn), HEAT TREAT HARD ( 25-30 bhn)
Shoots like jacketed to 2100 fps, holds together very well on impact, ignores bone. Does NOT break up like linotype at high impact speeds.
20%WW/80% pure lead. There's enough tin to cast well, and enough arsenic to heat treat well.
I shoot 30-30 at 1900 to 2100 fps for less than .22 mag, and 45-70 at 1600 fps only a bit more.
.30 Bullets are primarily Ranch Dog 165, SAECO 160, and Lyman 31141
    .45 cal bullets are ranch dog 350, RCBS 300,& 400, RCBS 525

I've only shot 1 deer with a cast boolit so far and with a 30 cal FN and 50/50/2%.
    I'm VERY happy with it.

50-50 %, ww-Pb, with a bit of tin. I cast for my MLs with straight soft and it's good to about 11-1400 in heavy loads with REAL boolits. I shoot the 50-50 as cast boolits in sabots my Savage MLII. 300 gr. at 2200+ in smooth black sabbot. Bullet terminal performance is superior. Of course it has the FN like a Ranch Dog. Some just use the straight ww. 303guy has some good info on tough boolits. Best, 10

I guess I just keep it simple.

30-06 with ACWW's 311284 at 1850fps and shot this deer at 160yds or so.
    no special pure/ww blend.

    And after the gutting.

I like about 70% ww to 30% pure lead. Works well for me.

like blammer, I like to keep it simple. I use straight ACWW for most center fire hunting bullets. Pistols will get a softer (50/50) blend.Be aware that a ROUND nose 169 gr .30 cal bullet STARTED at 1900 FPS will drop over a foot at 200 yards. Energy will be only about 690 pounds. Your FLAT nose could be a LOT different!

Aslong as the Bhn is 10+ (and that's predicated on the 1800fps).... really doesnt matter.

    They only eat grass.
