I am stuck at home for the time being due to an injury. Some one on another forum suggested a patched bullet match so I figured why not.

Rules are simple....


2 class- Iron sight and any sight


Iron sight course of fire consists of 5 shots each standing (50yds), sitting (50yds) and prone (100yds).

Any sight course of fire consists of 5 shots each standing (100yds), sitting (100yds) and prone(200yds).

Groups should be five consecutive shots. Each position does not have been shot on the same day though. No time limits, some people don't have the tools for accurate timing. Though, if it takes you more than an hour to fire 5 shots you are probably not following the spirit of the rules.

Any caliber for either class, (cartridge or front stuffer).

Bullets must be patched and composed entirely of lead other wise.


Slings are allowed.


Bipods, benches, trees, rocks, small children or shutzenwagons are not.....

Iron sights means open style or peep style sights.

Any sight means what ever you want, mount the hubble telescope on your rolling block if you want.

If you have questions about a specific sight just ask.

Please submit data listing your shootin iron and load for each entry.

This postal match is designed with rifles in mind but you can use pistols too if you desire.

For simplicity sake scores will be based on group size. Lets do this the cheap way. If possible, take a photo showing the two furthest distant holes of the group along with a measuring device. 12" scale should work well for most, yard stick will work if you had too much coffee that morning, caliper if you think you are that good. Best group in each shooting position wins. Each position is worth 5 team points. Team with the most points wins.

When people start getting their entries ready I will start a new thread for entries only in each class. Each shooter will make one post in the thread for their results. They can update this post with new results if they shoot a better group.

Deadline is 31 July 2011.

I think it only fair you be restricted in number of attempts. 5 hits in 50 would work for me.

Quistion, are cartridges required? my best shooter loads from the front. Other than that, I have a 25 foot Stanley tape for the 100 stage.

Load:
- Lyman 375449 cast from 8 BHN range scrap (indoor rimfire range), Paper Patched to .382", light finger coating of LLA, sized .382 in lee push-through sizer
- 32.5 gr 3031 (~1800 fps)
- Starline 2.125 brass, lightly necksized in RCBS cowboy die
- CCI LRP (#200)



Comments:
I really only use this rifle/load on 300 yards plates from the bench. Shooting it offhand/sitting/prone was a humbling experience. I found myself wanting a sling, and a crisper trigger.

I was downstate on vacation all last week. Today was my first day back at the office, but then they shut the power down for a couple of hours this afternoon while putting in some new transformers. To make good use of the downtime I ran out to the local gravel pit to ventilate some targets.

I'm hoping that getting some results posted will increase the interest. I tried to provide you with some easily beatable ones in order to avoid scaring off potential participants.

I've got 40 more rounds on the shelf and can head to a proper range before the end of the month in the event the competition heats up. I'm thinking about how to work up a sling for the rifle as well. It would have helped a lot on the prone target.

Had a great day at the Range today.
May have to have another go at it.

Evidence that things are working out well with new brass and weighed charges etc etc.

To my credit it was gusting everywhere 20-30 knots. But I shouldn't of been that bad!!!

Hope the pics go in this thing.

First off easy peasy 100yrd sitting.

338mm from widest holes centre to centre

Next 100yrd Standing ? rocking wildy.

Centre to centre 192mm which is strange 'cos I thought the sitting was good.

Lastly 200yrd prone.

Felt real good with this. Oops 760mm roughly as the last bullet was off the target and in the stand.


Does anyone really want to copy my load????

Rifle 30-30 H&R 172 Lee half wrapped with 30 grns 2208. 1.5-5x scope.

Got something worked out for tomorrow or Sunday.
Hoping things shall improve some what.
Weather will still be gusting everywhere thou. But I could do better.)

Ps black dots were sighting in plain cast a couple at a time at 100yrds. high one first PP shot 5"high sems likeit was at least 10"high at that range???? Awhhh well.

Its a tie as of right now. I have to tiddy up around the house and hope to sneak off to the range for an hour or so if the weather holds.
