    500 S&W bullet's

I got this 500 from a good friend and he gave a bunch of j-bullets with it and 1 lee 2 cavity 440gr gc rnfp mould but I would like to find a 500-550gr cast boolit mold for the gun if it's available? I also wondering what powder you guys are finding works well in these I have some that I loaded with win 296 and man alive 34.0gr of that behind the 440gr cast boolit you know you have just shot a 500magnum so IM looking for some diff powder I have heard good things about h110 but IM wide open to trying some new stuff....

I think you'll find that h110 & W296 are pretty much the same. John Ross has posted on this forum about using standard IMR rifle powders to fill the case completely and prevent double charges of pistol powders. I tried some Varget and IMR 4895. Neither powder gave me the velocity that I wanted but I am going to try some others. I have some 440grn and use H110 & Lil gun. Those loads really get your attention!

EDIT: I am mistaken: It looks like john is using the Hodgdon powders not IMR:

Here's one of the GB, hotwheelz.

    http://www.castboolits.gunloads.com/...d.php?t=111062

The other one was for the "pointy" bullet as they were calling it. Didn't find it at first glance... you might go digging for it, it's there somewhere.... could be in closed, though I know that wouldn't be helpful to you.

5.7 MAN: Maybe I misread the loading tables I've seen, but it sure looked like they were getting better velocities for less powder?

5.7 MAN: Yeah -- I don't know about the Lil Gun. I had been thinking about it, though, as one to try before win296. I've just been thrilled with it in my K Hornet -- 3300 and 3200 fps with no pressure signs. But I'd read about some erosion or other problems folks were seeing in revolvers and forcing cones. Don't know that this would be a problem in a DE, but wasn't sure I wanted to fool with it. The DE has the gas port just forward of the case mouth in the chamber/bore throat, then a sharp turn and a long straight shot down the bored gas tube to another right angle turn before venting into the gas piston cylinder. Not sure what blasting burning Lil Gun powder into that first or second right hand turn would do over time. What's been your experience?

Try the John Ross Quintaweight design group buy that I am running for plain base. If you want gas check, you can try the 600 gr mihec currently running. For years now, a lot of us have ordered from mountain molds, and if the group buys are not what you are looking for then I would advise the MM is your best option. LBT and NEI do have 500 designs but I have reservations about them.

Thanks for the info guys, I got onto the 600gr hp mihec mould group but 500gr is plain base only this should be fine as I doubt you would be pushing these past 1100-1200fps at max load but truth is IDK all of my magnum bullets i run a g.c. with .357, 44 ect for no other reason then I thought I should b/c of the heat generated as i sit here write this down I am question my thinking b/c i have had no issue with 9mm going 1200fps with plain base so... what are your guys thoughts

500 grains will definitely go faster than 1200 fps. Without looking up the exact numbers, it would be more like 1600. I have not tried that yet in a PB in the 500, but I will be water dropping for sure. However, straight WW I shoot all the time PB in a 44 mag at about 1300 with no leading. I have used both Speed Green and Carnauba Red.

What velocity are you wanting to get? 4759 is a great powder in the .500. Load to 100% density with any bullet and you will get a powerful load that is nowhere near max, example long nose 550 @ 1325 FPS out of 5" barrel.

4198 will give you powerful loads also using the 100% density method.

I'd avoid all powders faster than H110/296 in the .500 with the exception of Trail Boss. I'd give or throw away any Titegroup I had in my house, if I'd ever bought any...
