I want to load 16 #1 buckshot in a 2 3/4 hull using 1 1/2 ounce load data from Hodgdon.
Rem. RP12 and WAA12R are the wads listed. Will they leave enough room with a 1/8 card under the shot?
Thanks

use buckshot data and follow it do not sub anything even primers
If there was buckshot data I would follow it. Can you find #1 buckshot data?
wwhy #1 just load 00
let me see what i have
but you will have to follow that means use the shell, powder, wads, primer,
(brass plated steel head with a fiber or paper base wad
ok so here we go
12ga 2 3/4" hi power, steel,or most federal shells with a fiber or paper base wad and brass plated steel head
powder:HI-skor 800X 28 gr
primer: win .209
wad: WAA12R winchester red wad or replace meant wad for the WAA12R
16 pellets of #1 buck

why would a load that works on the same weight of fine shot not work on buck as long as the wad was the right height for crimping?
well its better to load buck with a buck load
only thing like this ive done is for 9 pellet 00 buck with a 1 1/8oz shot load
only reason i did it is i have shells that are not made any more and i only have shot loads for them
its not for the beginner you need to know what your doing
camerl2009, most people besides you think it is ok to use lead shot data for buckshot. And you just admitted that you have done it yourself. Like the loads you made, the buckshot in my loads will weigh less than the shot.
All I want to know is if the wad (with petals cut off) is short enough to leave room for the crimp.
AA hulls

what aa do you have i only have data for the old aa not the aa hs
thay are not interchangeable
and as for powder long shot was not made in the 80's so i dont have data for it
i only have 2 loads for #1 buck in the old aa one with SR4756 and one with blue dot both use the w.209's
It will !
I proved this to myself not to very long ago with a 2 7/8" 10 gauge !
I load 1 1/4 ounce birdshot in it and it works out close enough that I can load a dozen 00 Buck as well using the same wad , primer and powder charge !
If you purchase one of BPI's buckshot manuals and look at their load data you will see that they do not differentiate between buck sizes just nominal weights !

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen........I was going to stay out of this but in the name of civility, I'm entering the discussion.
In their book Reloading for Shotgunners 4th edition, the learned authors Kurt D. Fackler and M.L. McPherson whose names you may or may not recognize, state unequivocably that "...... finer lead birdshot loads are often convertible to buckshot loads. Many tests indicate that the same weight of buckshot in a load that contains fine lead birdshot will produce the same or slightly less test pressure. However do not under any circumstances presume you can make a heavier load. Buckshot may be used in any load as long as the weight of the load does not change and the shotcup has room for the larger sized pellets."

Back to the OP question. I doubt that you can get 16 No. 1 buck in a 2 3/4" 12 gauge load using a shotcup. I'd guess 12 is all you an get in. You could prob'ly get 16 in (4 layers of 4) if loaded without a shotcup. Regards, Woody

you may get that many in if you use a seperate gas seal and a cushionless shotcup. its not optimal but it would work if load size is what youre after. removing the length of the legs from the wad coulmn would give you extra room for shot.
shot size doesnt matter, weight does. as long as the powder charge matches the weight and the wad column is correct there is no reason the load wont work as long as its properly developed.

Get some LBC43mm and do a 16 buck load with stacks of two in the 12 gauge 2 3/4" loads.....use Federal, Cheddite, or Fiocchi straight walled hulls, buffer, and roll crimp.
