Weatherby vanguard

I did some swapping over the weekend and am out a Rem BDL 700 in 300 winchester with an older weaver 3x9 and up a Weatherby vanguard in 22-250 and a mossberg 30-06, both unfired. I did through in $100 cash. I will mainly use the '06 for a j-word rifle [the springfield is my cast gun in'06] but the 22-250 will see both. I am looking for some loads with 4064, 4895, 2015 or others in the 22-250. twist is 1 in 14". Gianni.

No load data for the .22-250 (though I have some 1956 vintage milsurp pulldown IMR 4895 that's worked well in that cartridge.) Just wanted to say that Vanguard is a really sweet rifle. I've got one of the Wal-Mart specials in .300 Weatherby, and it's a real shooter!

I think Felix and Sundog are the ones you need to get with. Both have plans to do tesing with 22 cf for a new group buy mould. I think Sundog posted a while back on his recent family outing with a 22-250 and may have had some loads listed.

I am anxiously awaiting the outcome and possible group buy for the 22-250. I have been going to purchase the 22bd form midsouth but it has been out of stock for some time, waiting on Lee to make more I guess.

Here is "Mr. Weatherby," my Vanguard .300 Weatherby Magnum that I've had since January 1999, and just customized with a Boyd's JRS Classic laminated stock that came off of a Howa 1500 Supreme.

Richocht, that is one mean nasty ugly looking stock, but it sure comes together right, kinda sinister looking bit of kit ain't it? They are practically giving those Weatherbys away in Australia, not much dearer than a new barrel, most guys doun't bother rebarreling nowadays. Mick.

I had one of he generic Vanguard 22-250's (a Howa 1500) that shot VERY well for me. It would do 3/4" groups with bullets/loads it liked pretty routinely.

A "go to" load for me in 22-250 uses the Sierra 52 grain boat-tail Matchking with up to 38.0 grains if H-380. This one has worked in several rifles of mine and those of friends, just set the ogive .025" back from the leade. In 26" barrels the load can go 3800 FPS, and gets about 3650 FPS in 22" tubes.

My current 22-250 is a deeply experienced example (prior to my acquisition), which was reflected in its purchase price. Even with its eroded throat, it still shoots very well with the Sierra 60 grain HP's seated out to get close to the rifling origin......2.460". If you have a rifle with a deeper throat, the Sierra 60's long shank might give you more "reach"--even with that extended OAL, I still have more than a full caliber of seating depth. I keep swearing to re-tube this rifle, but if it shoots well, what's the need? I use 36.0 x H-380 with the Sierra 60's, and it goes 3400 FPS.
