Does anyone have any special recipes for BP bullet lube? I really love the TC Bore Butter, but can't see buying it anymore as much as I shoot BP.
Thanks.

Nope, nobody here has ever posted any recipes for black powder lubes
Especially not Emmert's or it's many variations.......
Seriously, do a search.

emmerts does work well as does pearl lube ( that's my current batch btw ) i seem to recall a couple of recipes that used the bore butter ( i too like the smell ) for limited use the Precision Lube 2000 works well ( for finger applications anyways and patches) comes in a jar

ummm small bottles vs. making a batch ...... if limited use i'd just buy what u like , it usually doesnt go bad sitting in the container
+1 on the Emmerts. It's easy to make and it works.

I use a 6/5 parts mix of beeswax/virgin olive oil for all my BP shooting, cartridge and muzzle loader. It works through a TC luber, a lyman 450 and is easy to hand lube bullets. I also put some in a baggie with pre-cut patches and microwave a bit to soak the patches. Works great for felt wads too.
If interested I can post how I make it, it is easy to do with minimal fuss.

3lbs white crisco 1.5 lbs beeswax best of anything i tried!!!!!!!!!!
Like the previous poster said --- Use a combination of Crisco and Beeswax. To make it harder put in more Beeswax. To make it softer put in more Crisco. Make it as soft or hard as your situation calls for. Use a double boiler set up to make it (go look at some home-made candle how to info if you don't know what I mean by that).
Very simple --- very effective.
1-1-1 Mutton or deer tallow-beeswax-peanut oil -- Vary the amount of peanut oil for winter or summer shooting. More oil for cold/cool weather less for warm/hot weather. Peanut oil has a very high smoke point, about 100 degrees higher than olive oil and is better for lube but it probably dosen't make much difference as the animal fats have low smoke temperatures about equal to olive oil. The mutton/lamb or deer tallow will stay solid at higher temperatures than Crisco or other processed shortening and be firmer. I make up pretty large batches and store in the freezer in old coffee cans and take out to use a pint at the time as necessary. I have some over 5 years old and it's still fresh and useable. If stored at regular temperatures over time it may go rancid. 10 ga
