    DEADBEAT - Riverwalker76

I have a limited supply of Mountain Man type sharpening stones.

These stones aren't as 'pretty' as the ones you would buy in the store, but they are better than anything that you can buy for the money. These stones can put an edge on any steel blade that would rival most surgeon's scalpels using the right oil and technique.

As I stated before ... these aren't a wooden boxed sharpening stone, but instead a replica of what you might find in a Mountain Man's Possibles Pouch. They are made from handpicked Grade A - Arkansas Novaculite, and I have heat treated the stone at 850 degrees for 8 hours to improve the honing ability and hardness of the stone.

PM me with any questions. If you already know what these are ... then you know what kind of deal these are at this price. I've sold similar stones at rendezvous for twice the money, but I figured shipping would be part of your cost ... so you get the better deal.

    $10 shipped for a small stone (roughly 3" X 4")

    $15 shipped for a med. stone (roughly 4" X 6")

$25 shipped for a large stone (upwards from 6" X 8") This one will last multiple lifetimes!

    Thanks for the look.

    *UPDATED* - 08 Aug 2010

I have made up 6 more medium stones and 4 Large stones if you are interested. Although, I would like to trade for the ones I now have made up, but will also accept cash.

    I need the following ...

~ Lee .50 Cal REAL Combo mold

~ Lyman .22 Cal 225415 ... Already have one, but decided I need #2 to make for faster production.

    ~ Lyman .30 Cal ... 311332 OR 311644

~ I will consider any other mold you have to offer in .22, .30, .452, or .50 cal muzzleloader. Please just PM me. Please keep in mind that the .22 cal mold will be for an AR and Mini-14 platform.

    Thanks for looking!

It's hard. I can almost guarantee that you haven't seen any sharpening stones like these. What most stonemakers won't tell you is that they are designed to wear out, so you have to buy more.

Not with these ... These are hard stones that hone your blade to an extremely fine edge without wearing out!

By heat treating the stone ...as I did ... it made the material even harder and enabled the silica in the stone to form microscopic cracks. There is something about heat treating a stone that is high in silica that makes it 3X as hard when the heat treating is finished. Something about bridging the silica crystals, and a chemical reaction. I don't know the technical aspects of it, but maybe a flintknapper could explain it to you better. They do it a lot with their chert and flint. With the particular novaculite that I have ... by heat treating it ... it almost gave it a diamond honing ability.
