    Need heavy bullet 38-55 data

I have been shooting moderate level 38/55 loads in my .375 Winchester Marlin and enjoying it immensly.

Recently picked up a mold that casts a 330 grain bullet that I would like to try. Does anyone have any data for a bullet this heavy in the 38-55 to 375 win range?

All of the manuals I have stop at a 250 grain approx weight level.

I'd be intersted in a recipe for this as well. I've been shooting my Lyman 330 grainers with just blackpowder so far.

The heaviest that I shoot in my Savage 1899 38-55 is 280gr with GC. I felt like Reloader 7 was too quick, pressures seemed to spike rather than be linear, and stopped at 26gr. My AA2015 load is 28-30gr and AA2200 30-32gr, and both seemed linear.

Your .375Win cases will have less capacity, but if your chamber is not largish like mine is, can be loaded to higher pressures. You might try AA2015, AA2200, or H322, but I would suggest avoiding the quicker burning powders with that heavy bullet. IMR 3031 may be as slow burning as you'll want, but you may run out of case capacity.

Actually, in my experience, most .375 Winchesters will chamber 38-55 brass easily, as well as fat boolits. This Marlin certainly will. The limitation with this gun is OAL.

Same experience here. My Winchester M94 Big Bore will feed & chamber the Starline long (2.125"?) brass.

I have been told Lyman 49 has data. Does anyone have this manual and would they care to share the data?

In our Buffalo matches I shoot a 330 gr Hoch nose pour over 18.5 gr 5744 with COW and a felt wad saturated with Crisco. It's accurate in my FrankenWin94 (with a 375 bull blank barrel) and shoots clean as a whistle. If memory serves it's about 1500 fps out of a 26" bbl.

PS this is a fast-twist bbl (but I don't remember twist exactly). It was a cheap Midway blank intended for something in 375 - Win or H&H. I chambered it in 38-55. The bore is right at 375. I size bullets to 377.
