casting for 9mm

Im getting ready to start casting for a sig P6 (P225) Any recomondations on a mold for it?

I don't have a P6 but my CZ75B loves the Lee TL-356-124-2R. My double cavity drops at .357 124.5 grains using 60/40 ww.pb alloy (air cooled). 3.5 grains Bullseye feeds flawlessly and plenty accurate for my ability at 7 - 15yds.

I also am using Lee molds. I have the tl and the regular 124gr. You should be happy with any of those.

I have been casting and shooting the Lyman 356402 124 gr truncated cone boolit and recently the 356637 boolit. The latter drops out of my mold at 154 grains.

The 356402 boolit is extremely accurate as is the 356637. I have a spreadsheet with a number of loads tested. If you PM me your email address I'll send it to you. All loads are well within maunal specs and have been shot from a variety of 9MM guns.

I have used Lyman 356402 and it is as stated an excellent choice. I have also used with much success the RCBS 124 truncated cone version. Another popular suggestion if you prefer a round nose design would be the Lyman 356242. Other manufacturers such as Lee or Saeco also make similar designs that work well. It is a matter of preference and price. LLS

My P6 loves Lee 124 TC conventional lube groove.

Note that you want to size to .357 almost for certain. .356 or .355 is likely to do
very poorly or even tumble and hit the target sideways.

Ive never tried anything as light as 90 gr. Any issues with feeding on something that light?

Any idea wht your bore slugs at? My Sig P228 slugs at .3565, so I have had great luck with the Lee 358-158 RF... sized to .358 and set atop 2.7 grns w231.

Couple of Lee 357 revolver bullets work well sized at .357" or even .358" in some pistols.
358-105-SWC & 358-125-RF.

I've around 3 K of Lee 357-125-RF I ran through a 358” size die that was galled with lead and gave me a bunch of .3575” bullets. Will try some of those in my S&W when it warms up.

For accuracy and funtion I'd go with the Lyman calssic 356402 TC. But with it's pointed nose it doesn't kill for didly. I've tried it on small critters.

I've been shooting the Lee 358-125-RF with excellent results in a Beretta 92FS with deeper than spec grooves. The groove diameter is almost .358", and the ".358" die in my Star produces .359" bullets.

The pictures in the Lee catalog, and even the picture on the box, does not match the bullet produced by this mold. The pictures show a Beveled base bullet, with a huge meplat and a heavily rounded nose. The actual bullet is flat based, with a good sized meplat and gradually rounded nose.

It feeds and shoots quite well in my 92FS and P-38. I have not tried it in anything else.

I've shot a few thousand of the Lee TL356-124-2R bullets cast with my 6 cavity and it's been very accurate in all of my 9mm's. 358-105-SWC has also been very accurate (and conserving of lead) and I use it in my practice loads. The 105's didn't feed 100% in my CZ Compact that I owned and I had occasional FTF's in my STI Trojan with the factory mag. However, the Trojan feeds the 105's 100% with the Springfield mags (with the crease down the front as opposed to the factory STI mag with the spacer down the back of the mag.)

I looked at the 358-125-RF bullet for possible use in both 38 and 9mm but they only offer it in a 2 cavity and I won't cast with anything under a 4 cavity. Just too slow for the number of bullets I cast and shoot.

My 124-2R mold is pretty beat up and I'm thinking of buying the 120-TC 6 cavity mold to try out. I've owned the 124-2R for awhile and cast a lot of bullets before I started using Bullplate sprue lube and the mold suffered as a result.

I just moved up from a 2 cav 120 TC Lee to the 6 cav because it works so well. Feeds perfectly in a number of
different guns and is very accurate at .357. This is the conventional not TL version.

I cast around 100 9mm 124 gr. 2r boolits from a Lee 2 cavity TL mold. I haven't shot any yet. I let 50 air cool and 50 water cooled. The bhn on the water cooled is around 20 after 4 weeks. The boolits looked good from the start. I didn't have to go through all the usual stuff to get them to cast correctly.

I'll vouch for Cloudpeak and his 105SWC boolits and loads. He posted some pictures here a year or two ago of the groups he got.

After I quit drooling, I tried to replicate the loads. Not much success.

So I PM'd him, and like the shooting guru and genius he is, Cloudpeak told me he had the data somewhere and would have to find it. My anticipation caused my blood pressure to spike, then he PM'd me some info. I tried it and it was PERFECT.

A while back, I went to reload some more of those jewels and looked and looked for my notes that had his formula on them. I have no clue where they went.

But I'm serious--his groups with that 105SWC had a LOT of us salivating and there was a definite spike in demand for that Lee 105SWC mould.

One of the best overall boolit moulds I've got--very versatile.

I cast for both the TL-356-124-2R and the 356-120-TC. The TL will shoot well in almost anything that I've come across unsized, less my Star A which is a bit on the tight side and prefers the TC sized to .001 over bore. Either feed and shoot well in a friends Sig P226. Again with the TL unsized and the TC sized to .001" over bore. The molds that I have cast the TL @ .357/8 and the TC @.359.
