Anyone got a reccomendation for a 243 bullet? Friend has one in a Handirifle and we've decided to give it a try. So who makes a good bullet for this. Anyone get a few samples they wouldn't mind sending our way? Thanks, JohnH

I can send some RCBS 95 SP your way. I assume you would like them sized/lubed/checked? 12.0 grains of 2400 does good things in my rifle, and the RCBS Cast Bullet Handbook shows this powder at 13.0-15.0 grains as recommended loads.

I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.
JohnH--Dep Al beat me to offering to send you some of the same---95 grain RCBS. You didnt ask for powder info--but I'll give you my experience. My old Lyman 44th edition--copyright 1967 listed a load of IMR 4227 13.0--18.0 max. The Lyman Cast Bullet Manual copyright 1980 and as late as Nov 1999 lists a starting of 19.3 and max of 24.5. I still find it odd that the newer starting was above the old max. Anyways I tried it from the old start all the way up in .5 grain increments. The results were fairly good all the way up,but 23.5 grains was magic. 24.0 and 24.5 were off the paper.
Thanks Carpetman, appreciate that.
JohnH, The only cast bullet that I have had good luck with is the 85gr. Lyman RN, can't remember the number, but it is still made. Mine is probably 25 yrs old or more. A Livorn (sp) type bullet. Shoots well in all three of my 243's with moderate charges of 2400 and RD in the Vol range of 1600-1800 range. Have not tried the other bullets recommended. Have a mold for a 95 gr. Lyman that won't shoot through anything I have because it is just to long.

John H, The Loverin the previous poster mentioned is #245496, which is still available from Lyman. I have it and a slightly lighter hollow-pointed version of it and they do shoot rather well from my Ruger #1. I also have the Lyman spire point mold (95gr.) and the ~100gr. RCBS version of it, but couldn't get them to shoot worth a tinker's dam. I sold the RCBS, but still have the Lyman SP if you're interested (single cav., like new; casts beautifully). ...Maven
I have the Lyman , mine come out 90gr with lube and gas check.
14gr IMR 4227, 1500fps, put 3 in .2" at 50yd, 16gr , 1650fps, did .4" at 50yd, 24gr IMR 4198 gave 2300fps and 2 touching, one 1/2" to the right, 26gr gave 2575fps and all three shots missed the lower right target on a 4 bull target.
Rem. 788, 4x Gibson's scope from the '80's from a good rest.
