    Primers in my area

Just got back from "Hit or Miss" gun shop, and finally got some small rifle magnum primers. CCI was all he had in these and had to fork over $27.00 and tax for 1000, but at least he had em, (first time for srm since last Feb.). Standard primers are $26.00 a 1000 and he has a good supply.

The powder magazine is still a little scant, RELOADER powders are in stock, as well as pistol/shotgun powders, but IMR and HOGDON rifle powders are still scarce, in particular VARGET and 4895. I've been getting IMR4227 and IMR4964 pretty regular though, and IMR4350 shows up once in a while.

Over-all it's about 50% better now than it was in the spring, (at least here).

Ammo is another story though, the popular hunting calibers around here are still in short supply, but it doesn't affect me in the least since I cast and handload. The shop only has a few boxes of most popular ammo on the shelves, (if any at all).
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

$27/1000 is a great price especially when you can support a local business for that money (these days). Primers are available in my neck of the woods but the local gun store has them for $40/1000 for Winchesters (I didn't price anything else). They have also always had hunting ammo. 22LR is $31/brick for CCI Blue but always in stock. Bullets were hit and miss for awhile there but inventory "looks" pretty good now. I see they are pretty stocked on lead bullets, something that wasn't so six months ago.

That is a decent price. Maybe a few bucks higher than they would have been 2-3 years ago. I'd consider yourself lucky. My options here in Raleigh is to pay $40/1k @ Hill's (ripoff artists/economy leaches), or drive 45miles to Vass, NC and pay $23-25/1k when/if Ed's Guns has the primer(s) I'm looking for in stock.

So if any of yall from Hill's is on the site, FYI, I'm driving the 90miles round trip solely for the principle of it.

Just went to Bob's gun shop in Norfolk, he's still limiting purchaces to 300 at a time - @$3.76/10. I was there for other reasons, got some Herco and ammo boxes, but I'm not that desperate yet. He's pretty well stocked for powders but the IMR's are priced around $25/lb. I got Herco for $18 and change.

I saw $47/thousand for Wolf small pistol primers--and this was at a gun store. Seemed high to me. . . .

No doubt! Mike's a great guy all around. Fair prices and good stock plus, he'll order anything you want.

The last small pistol I bought locally a month or so ago were $28.95 from a small shop. I was happy and Harold said that they were starting to come in on a fairly regular basis now.
I still won't give $26.00 for a brick of Remington Thunderbolt .22 though.

I just paid $45 a box for CCI. I didn't want to pay that much but primers are still a little hard to find here and even if there was't a shortage they are hard to find here because there are few shops that sell them here. I don't even like the shop I bought them from but he has the best supply of guns/reload in town. I just may have to resort to ordering them.

I was at Scheels on Saturday in Sparks, NV. They had a pretty good supply of primers for $46.99/ 1000. Think I'll stick with 22lr for a bit longer. Did have a good supply of powder though, picked up some Bullseye ($17 / lb) which I haven't seen for a long while.

Were you at the Reno show Brian?

I didn't check prices, but the ammo booth had bout' 6 cash registers over by me, and they were going full bore. Saw cart after cart of ammo and primers roll on out the show.

I just went by B&S Guns in Garland, Texas. $10 and 11 for 100 primers, $35 a pound for powder. I remember why I don't buy there. $110 for 1000 primers.

primers are $70 per K at the only local shop that sell's 'em, and all powders are at least $30 a pound, so I wait for the show to come to town, and get primers for $36 per K and powder at $18-$25 a pound.

A while back i was at northwest armorey, and noticed they had IMR 4895, Wow, hadn't seen that in a while, so i grabbed a can. NO price was marked, so I asked how much. While the kid behind the counter was asking someone else, I noticed.....this was DUPONT IMR 4895..... 20+ years old. Then came the price...something like $35 / lb. NO THANKS....I don't need it that bad.

My local BI-Mart has Rem primers on the shelf most of the time now, for about $3 / 100, but limit of 400. Haven't seen any 1000's recently...but haven't looked too hard. For now, I have more primers than I have range time to shoot them

The local club is getting in primers in sporadically, but they are around $28 per 1K, they are getting IMR and Hogdons powder for $26 per lb for rifle and 19 for pistol. The only other place in town that has primers wants $48 per 1K. Gander Mountain has 209 Primers in several brands for 3.99 to 5.19 per 100.

I have enuf ammo for a while so I intend to wait it out for a time.

I hold a fervent hope that those hoarders who willingly paid 30 buck plus per thousand with the intent of making a killing from other shooters get stuck with them after the supply catches up with the demand and prices go back down into the 20 to 25 per 1000 range.

In the meantime I am looking for a decent flintlock rifle to satisfy my urges to burn powder.
