I Am Getting A 15 In 357 Rem Max Tc Barrel In A Few Weeks, I Hope. What Bullet Weight, Size, And Hardness Of Cast Bullet Has Worked For You? I Will Be Shooting Ram Targets At 200 Yards. I Have Lots Of Ww Linotype 60-40 . I Just As Soon Not Water Dip The Bullets. W Was Thinking I Would Want A 180 Or 200 Gr Bullet And Seat It Out Long. I Use A Star Sizer And Do Not Want Gas Checks. I Think I Will Be 1500-1800 Fps. I Have Casted A Lots Of Bullets But Not For This Speed. Never For A Tc . If You Have Had Good Or Better Groups With Jacked Bullets, What Bullet ,weight, Starting Load, And Overall Lenight? Thanks And Good Luck In Answering My Rambling. Thanks 686

I have a carbine barrel in that caliber but I haven't shot it yet. If you are determined to use cast only, there are pressure/velocity limitation on your bullet. About 1400-1500 fps might be your limit. But with all the powder room in that cartridge you might want to consider heavier .35 caliber rifle bullets. Remember, you're not limited to flat point bullets in your TC. I would think it would be possible to get 1400 from a 250 grain bullet. But probably unnecessary, a 180 or 200 grain bullet at 1500 should do the rams quite adequately. I think this is a great caliber.

Your gonna love playing with the maxi, In my MGM custom encore 15 inch I have had best luck with gaschecked 180 grainers from 9 to 1 ww to lino alloy, and remington bulk 180 jhp from midway. But I am pushing them to around 2K over max+ loads of 4227. I have a 180 grain plain based mold from mountain molds that I have not totally tweaked and/or shot slow enough yet, for optimum results.

I am running the group buy on the checked 180 right now that even though you state no checks you may want to check out. You might wanna push it a lil harder some day and this would be the boolit to do it with plus it is a limited time offer.. I shot some I got from a generous member here (thanks Jeff) and decided I had to have the mold. In a j word load I had my best luck with 4227 and my worst luck with 1680, but then again I was pushin them hard, harder than you want to. As for tame loads, well I ain't tried that too much yet.

I shot sil with the RCBS 180 SIL bullet about 20 years ago in a 14" TC. Shot better than I could hold. It was 194 gr checked and lubed, from air cooled wheelweights. I think I settled on WW680, but know I tried 296 and H4227 as well. Wish I had the TC back...

edit to add: for jacketed I used the Hornady 180 SIL. Accuracy was fine, but cost led to the RCBS mold.

Take a look at the 35-200 RCBS. Very good boolit for the 357 Max. or the standard 357.

I second this one, a very good boolit over 4198 in my Maxi Rifle, it'll take deer too.

I had an older Dan Wesson SS 8" in 357 MAX . I never shot cast in it , but it would shoot well with Hornady 180 grain XTP's. Would have liked to kill a deer with it using the Nosler 180 grain Partititon but I didn't get around to it before I traded it off.

Probably shouldn't have gotten rid of it , but there's a lot of them that I could say that about

You aren't going to be able to get the results you want without a gas check.
