    Universal Hulls and Slugs

I asked several months ago about this. Well I have been loading these in my Remington 870 and my Model 11 Remington. I use 36gr. HS-6 with a CB-1114 wad. I put 2 thicknesses of cardstock over the slug then crimp. I can put 3 in the same hole at around 25 yds. I am impressed. I get all my hulls at the skeet range on base.

Here is my card stock and in the one pic is the tool (20ga. shell base) that I use for cutting the cardstock.

    Not bad

But only reload those Winchester Universal hulls 1 TIME !!
    After the first reload
They have a nasty habbit of the base wad coming loose
    And lodging in the barrel

Over the years I have seen and heard of several barrels that bulged or came apart
When a base wad stuck in the barrel and another shell was fired

And I carry a LOADED Hell Cat

They aren't the best, but they work for a loading. I shot a bunch of reloads on the dove field and they went in the trash after.

In addition to what johnch said, only reload paper base wad shells that you KNOW have not gotten wet. This will also loosen the base wad and potentially lead to it coming out and lodging in the barrel. Be careful of picking up hulls that have been laying on the ground for any length of time.
Another cheap hull that works well is the Federal Top Gun. Our wednesday night trap club sells them pretty cheap and I take the hulls nobody wants at the end of the night.
You might also try the Federal 12S3 wads (not clones) with your card wads in the wad under the slug. I haven't loaded any yet, but several people here recomend them for the Lee slug.

Great idea using a sharpened hull base for cutting the card wads!

I run Top Guns, Super Speeds, AAs, Premiers, STSs, Paper Gold Medals, a bunch. I only use ones that have been put in the hull hopper under a roof at the local skeet range. It seems that the only hulls that don't stick around are the AAs and the Remington Premier/STS. I run WAA12 wads for shot loads and the CB1114s for the slug and buck loads.
