I don't see any reason it couldn't be used for .358 Win, though you might want the gas check version for that application. Luckily we have both GC and PB options on this. Did you want the GC, PB, or one cavity each way?

I want the plain base . I plan to use this in 38 sp, 357, 358 as a low vel (1100 - 1200 ft/sec) plinker . don't plan to push it in anything. Dave

Contender from the Ruger Forum has committed to a 3 cavity 3PB mold. He isn't a member here, so I'm posting for him. That means we just need one more mold to get going.

    Al:

I would like to request that the HP pin on the single cavity HP moulds match the size you made on your 358429 HP moulds. We can always grind one smaller if needed .

With the above, money should be in about July. I can do this again.
RG4 w/ two sets of blank pins. GC

Thumbs up A "refinement" in my request-

    Swede-
I am #4 in the order list for this boolit mold-
Please amend my mold order to be as follows:
4cavity, with 2cavity PB, 2cavity GC, with the HP on a GC cavity

Hopefully this is not too confusing- I hope?
    THANKS

As for the 200 grain SWC: I use the 200 grain Lyman 358430 for IDPA, mostly in .38 Special brass, to make both minor and major at low velocities. In addition to that, I think the 200 grain weight has applications for defensive use, but in that case, a SWC profile is much more in line with what I would want, as opposed to the Lyman RN. I'm also interested in trying the heavyweight bullet in real magnum form on whitetail next season, probably out of a Blackhawk or similar revolver, or perhaps out of a Marlin carbine (if I find the money for one before November). Plus, I'm a big fan of heavy for caliber bullets, and the 200 grain SWC seems a natural extension of that. I've found the 358430 to shoot quite nicely and accurately in my S&W revolvers. I don't see any reason the same wouldn't be true of the SWC profile bullet.
    Landric,

I just now saw this reply you posted in January. I need to visit the forum more often, ha ha. OK, you have me about halfway sold on this boolit. Now to the nitty gritty. The S&W revolvers have a one in 18.5" twist, IIRC. Pretty slow for a long boolit like this. Are your Lyman 358430s accurate out to 50 yards or more from your S&W revolver?

    Hardcast,

I haven't done any longer range shooting with the 358430, as I primarily use it for IDPA where the huge majority of shots are 15 yards or less. It has displayed excellent accuracy at those ranges in .38 Special mild loads (650-700 fps) all the way to reasonably hot magnums (1150+ fps). I suspect one would see the same thing at longer ranges, especially with magnum loads.

Louisiana Man, who has done some extensive testing with 200 grain boolits in both .38 Special and .38 S&W might be able to answer some questions about longer range performance. He has several posts on this thread.

    358wcf,

I edited your mold on post #85, which is the most current list. Please let me know if that is correct, or if you wanted more than one cavity HP'd.

    Landric,

Thanks for reply. If the boolit looks like the drawings in posts #46 and #51, I will probably be in for a standard mold in 5 cavity. I'll continue to watch this thread.
