Talking Billy Dixon Down Under - 2006

The Billy Dixon is over for another year and what a great fun shoot it was! Plenty of cast boolits & black powder.

Never seen so many originals from all makers either in factory trim or carefully restored to their former glory, Sharps, Rolling blocks,
1885 Winchesters, Comblain's and Martini's. (I'll bet if you sold this lot, The revenue would affect the national balance of payments)

The weekend had a variety of interesting matches sitting, offhand at 200m, rinfires offhand on a miniture buffalo target, deliberate at 500m, walkups,
walkbacks etc. but the grand finale is the buffalo shoot at 1000m. The actual target is in the treeline at the farthest left extremity of the range with a "bullafo calf" at 800m

    The 1000m firing line

Birds eye view of the Big Fifty a 14lb 50/90 Sharps firing a 650gn bullet backed by 105gn FG black powder.
Who said that magmun rifles are a modern thing! Recoil is calculated at 68ft lbs - close to that of 3+ 303's all at once OUCH!!!!!!

1863 Sharps - IAB of Italy

    Remington rolling block 45/90

    Belgein Comblain - 38/56 Winchester

"Cisco" holds the course record of 11/20 on the 1000m buffalo

...............What a nice looking range. Do you have to travel far yourself to get there? I saw a couple Comblains in the rack, and thanks for the close up. A different model then the one I have. Looks like a great bunch of guys. What did you shoot, and how didja do?

    Billy Dixon Down Under.

Where do you shoot that Bad Ass? I have a BPCR 45/70, CBE Postell Mould and a new set of Lyman 310 dies and a tool that need a serious workout. Mick.
