    Surplus powder

Being frugal [cheap!], I have been wanting to stop having to pay $23 lb + tax for the powders I use most, 4895, 4198 and 2400.
I Finally went to gibrass and bought WC 846, WC 680 and WC 820n.
I got out today to try some WC680, .45-70 Handirifle with 2.5x scope.
    320gr gc, 30gr=1270fps, 35gr=1620fps, 37.5gr= 1800fps.
    400gr gc, 30gr=1275fps, 35gr=1459fps.
    400gr HB, 30gr=1400fps, 35gr=1520fps.
The velocities are almost the same as I get with 4198, there was no leading and the barrel was slick with only a very small amount of ash.
    Targets attached.
Some of these loads show real promise, I need to do some more trials on the best.
All are 3 shots at 50yds.

Interesting post! Thanks and keep us posted.
The biggest waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who doesn't care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions.
There are people who, for all the evidence presented to them, do not have the ability to understand.

drinks .... if you shoot a 44 Mag you are gonna love the WC820(n). I load 18.5 gr with a MM 300 gr FNGC (80% meplat) sized .430. It is the best shooting bullet and powder combination that I have found in over 30 years of casting for and loading the 44 Mag.
