    Is it legal?

Suppose you live in California-I don't!
You want a Ruger Old Army cap and ball black powder handgun.
Is it legal for it to be shipped to you in California?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Hey Jeff, you thinking of moving? I'm not sure what California law is regarding your question, but the BATFE says muzzleloading firearms are "non-guns" and you can even mail ML revolvers by USPS. So, guess I would have to give it a definite maybe. Someone should be along shortly to give you the straight answer.

Since a couple aftermarket manufacturers have come up with 45 Colt cylinders to use in Ruger Old Army's that may very well have changed for this specific model .

It's kinda like having to do the background check on a TC Encore or Contender ML just because they can be made to shoot centerfire quite easily .

I ordered and received a cap & ball pistol from Cabellas (used it as a going away gift for a co-worker). No hastles or problems - muzzle loaders can legaly be shipped to the People's Republic of Kalifornia, for the time being.

It really irritates me when I am looking at, say, Gunbroker and a seller refuses to ship an item that is legal to Kalifornia. To me it tells me that the seller is too lazy to do their homework to know what is legal. But then again, I have also provided a few sellers the documentation showing what the laws are only to have them tell me tough luck. Oh well, someone else can get my money. I realize that most guys are just confused by the convoluted laws here and playing it safe by not shipping anything here. That is their choice, but I personally feel that as an FFL holder you are somewhat obligated to familiarize yourself with the basic laws concerning firearms.

As 6pt-sika said, it is also annoying when a seller wants to ship a non-gun to an FFL - often happens with antiques. Again, it boils down to the money - if I am going to have to pay a dealer an additional (unnecessary) fee then chances are I will just pass on the deal.

C&B gun RECEIPT varies by State... but you can SHIP them via USPS anywhere. Just make sure that there is no powder residue or one of the sniffers might catch it.

FWIW, in Illannoy and IIRC a couple of other States all firearms (receipt) transactions, C&B or not, have to go through an FFL.

The after-market CF cylinders are being offered for many models of C&B guns. If you ship the revolver with the percussion cylinder....no problem. Since the CF cylinder is just a PART, it may also be mailed separately.

The answer is NO! The reason they don't ship even cap and ball revolvers to CA is because it is against STATE law there as well as a few other states. I have a friend who lives there unfortunately. He had a knife shipped to me because it was against state law to ship there too! I believe they have to register there BP pistols there too, if I remember correctly.

    RE: C & B Revolvers

THE LAST POSTER IS~WRONG. CA law is the same as Federal, I've been buying antique rifles and pistols and having them shipped to me since the GCA whent into effect in 1969.I've lost count of how many i've bought and sold over the last forty years. I would hate to live in NJ or NY state, through.Since i was robbed in 1979 and lost about $20,000 in antique guns i don't have much left, since i'm now living on SSI Disability.

I'm with you on that. I don't sell many guns on gunbroker, but I don't exclude Ca buyers from my auctions when I do.

I have sold a few long guns that were shipped there. It took me all of 30 seconds to get the CA DOJ letter that is required for shipment.

Every lawbreaker we allow into our nation, or tolerate in our citizen population leads to the further escalation of law breaking of all kinds and acceptance of evil.
Since almost all aspects of our cultural existence are LIBERAL in most states, this means that the nation is on a trajectory to dissolution by the burden of toleration and acceptance of LAWBREAKING as a norm, a trajectory back to the dark ages of history.
