311407 is a great mold, but no better than its RN cousin 311467. 311407 came about, because folks wanted to use 311467 in leverguns and Guy Loverine and Lyman accomadated them with 311407, a flat nose version of 311467.

We did a custom/Lee clone of 311407 a couple of years back, but had to shorten it one band to make it fit in the Lee blocks. We called it 311407 Mod (Modified) and it turned out to be a big sucess. I think others have done a rerun a time or two.

If you want a good 311291 HP, do what I did. Send a good old single cavity mold to Buckshot and have it hollowpinted. When molds were still cheap on Ebay, I bought about a half dozen Ideal/Lyman molds for 311291 as over the years, their specs were all over the map. With that many molds, I could find one that would fit any rifle. The SC I sent to Buckshot ran .302 X 312 (wheel weight) and that is about perfect.

No sense to cry about the D-mise of hollow point molds where there are guys like Buckshot around to do the job. You can still find lots of good SC molds out there, and after it is all said and done, they will be no more expensive with a HP job done to them, than a new HP Mold. The workmanship is also as good or better than what you could expect from Lylman. Probably much better is most cases!

I have managed to rat hole a bunch of good molds, but for the folks that have not, I would like to see the entire line of 30 cal. Loverine molds made available again. That would be 311466, 311467, and 311407. BTW... I have a NIB 311407 HP that I snaged on Ebay some years ago...Hee-Hee-Hee..not for sale...nope..not way! You will have to wait for my estate sale.

I wish I would have had the foresight to buy
two or three of every thing I liked.

I agree with you on HP's with the work that
Buckshot does you can cover it real well.

358318"s are in the mail as per P.M. to Swede. I think he's going to find they are similar to (stretched out) 358315's. May be able to adapt his drawing from that.

The 429421 is currently offered by Lyman, in the original square
groove config. I wonder why it is on the list.

Haven't cross referenced the list with what is available.

    Good idea!
    Thanks

I would like to have Ideal/Lyman 257463 75 gr. and 257464 90 gr. moulds. Both are H. Guy Loverin designs. Lyman has for the most part written off .25 caliber. They don't even make .257 Roberts dies. The only .25 caliber mould they make is the 257420 65 gr.

For all too long I searched for the "right" defense boolit for the 38/357 calibers, and only lately found what seems to be a genuine answer to this question. It is the Modern-Bond model D358582, cast weight 150 grains (see Castpics molds, Bond molds, page 6). I recently found this pattern in a 2-cavity mold with handles and am very satisfied with it's results. This mold is designed as a wadcutter, but it provides a nose section outside the case similar to a SWC. By having more room in the case not occupied by boolit (as in WC design) this pattern can be loaded and pushed the same speeds as a SWC. End result - a faster WC (SWC on steroids?) at the same chamber pressure as a SWC, RN or RF! Huge meplat, respectable weight and veolcity, looks impressive loaded, and gives tight groups. What's not to like? Check out the Castpics viewing. Anyone out there wanting the measured dimensions for a possible GB, drop me a PM. This design was also offered in a heavier 160 grain weight, which would also be very interesting. Side note - after firing 25-30 rounds, loaded rounds drop freely into the chambers without resistance.

Rcbs 44-250-SWC #82044. I think it's closer to a true Keith than the current 44-250-K #82080. I like the RCBS moulds because they are sized to produce their pistol bullets with a soft alloy. Then when you cast one out of an antimony alloy they are big enough for oversize bores/throats

Swede: Thanks for the notice of receipt. I'm never sure when I send stuff across the border just what US Customs is liable to think of it (and of you and I). See my note in your other thread re: manufacture of moulds.

    Best.

358212- PB with a deep, square edged lube groove- 4 or 6 cavities.
H&G used to have one- like this one in my 38 S&W!

    Lyman 245498, 311299, 311329, 311331- all GC, and in 4 cavity molds.

I have also seen prices on existing 358009 bordering on the totally ridiculous due to the rarity of this mould, which somehow seems unfair to those in real need but without the means.

Just kinda thinking out loud, I suspect.

    Russ...
You can "design" and buy the equivalent from Mountain Molds. A little pricey but an excellent product. Took me 2 months from order to delivery. A very high quality mould. I suspect that Lyman is not re-producing these because of the stupidity of Remington commercializing the Whelen with a twist that has problems stabalizing bullets over 250ngr
