Good Old 45

Havent shot in awhile but today took the Ballistor Mileaner to an indoor shooting range---50 Ft. --- Shot 50 rounds of 4 bull behind a 200swc--- wow when I was done my hands where black from the dirty powder--I use to love bull but I think its time to change---anyone have a clean target load---

I have been using 4.2 gr. WW 231 as a replacement for the traditional 3.5 Bullseye for years for the very same reason. Boolit is H&G #68 200 gr. SWC.

I went from using Unique to Titegroup which is clean to Clays 3.8 under a 200 gr. swc and after 200 round outings it looks like you did"nt even shoot the gun. Gentle push and not a sharp crack also. Meters well out of my Dillon measure also. It is a flake powder the color of tan. If you try it make sure it is Clays and not International Clays 2 different beasts. Went thru 3 pounds allready and my 16 year old daughter loves it when she comes home from the range not looking like a soot stack. YMMV.

I like ww231, about 5.2 grains behind a 230 round nose. Swc's will work in my other .45s, but the Sig only likes round nose in a strong load.

I still like Bullseye, because I learned to wash my hands at a very early age.

Personally I don't think the new Alliant powders are that dirty burning now.

5.3 Gr Win 231 under a 200 gr LSWC does it all for me. Going to try some Titegroup today. Like the sound of CLays if it is indeed that clean. Probably get a pound to try. Win 231 though is sure a versatile powder. Going to be tuff to part with.

If 231 does it all for you I sure as hell wouldn't part with it. I think it's a great powder. I guess dirty burning powder really doesn't bother me that much if it performs. Hey if I had a dirty Chevy that turned the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds I sure as hell wouldn't care if it was dirty as long as it ran that good. Clay's is pretty clean burning. Alot depends on what kind of bullet lube you use too. You use something like the 50/50 mix such a Javelina you gun is still going to get dirty along with the outside of your brass.

Used to shoot steel plates, my first load was with 5.5 grs winchester super target as that what was a lot of the other shooters were using, with a 230 gr rn hardcast bullet. Then they stopped making WST and then switched to titegroup. 4.6grs with 200 hardcast swc.
Titegroup is cleaner than WST. Frank

It's been a while since I've used much of it, but back in the day, I used to use up a LOT of 700-X. Burned clean, and was pretty uncritical as to charge wt. too - not a bad thing at all. I've probably shot tons of it with the Lee 190 SWC's in my .45's. Dang fine load. FWIW.
