    3Fg in .45-70

An acquaintance wants to sell me a keg of Dupont 3Fg. Is this suitable for use in my Shiloh Sharps .45-70? The bullet I'm beginning to work with is a Saeco 645 63D which weighs 480 gr. I am interested in the Quigley Shoot and may be able to go in 2026. I understand I might need a heavier bullet. My pressing question is should I get the keg of 3Fg? Very good price.

That powder will work just fine, you will need good fouling control to maintainaccuracy
That saeco bullet is a very good one in the 45-70, and shoots well to 1000 yards. Cast it from 20-1, and use a good lube like Bullshop NASA or SPG.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

I should add that powder is likely to prefer rp or cci primers, but ymmv..

You bet. You’ll want to use a.030 veggie wad between the powder and bullet. Start with just enough powder the bullet makes firm contact with the wad on top of the powder. Some where between 65 &68 grains will be the sweet spot.
Long range rules, the rest drool.
