    Rifles of Panamanian Honor Guard

I watched Sec Rubio and President Mulino enter the Panamanian Capitol. When they did, the Honor Guard executed Present Arms. It was a fleeting glance, but it appeared the rifles were SKS’s. Did anyone else see the clip, and if so, what rifle were they carrying?

Panama has a mixture of stuff that is mostly M4/M16 variants and AKMs.
There's other stuff like FALs and M1 carbines.

The rifles weren’t AR or AK variants, nor were they FALs or M1’s

Here’s a link to see a short clip of the rifle. Wish I could capture an actual picture and post it but have never been able to post a pic with my phone. Maybe someone else can

I wonder if Sec Rubio noticed the Chinese influence with the military?

The procurement of AKM and SKS was started back when Noriega was dictator.
Central and SA countries tend to hang on to rifles and pistols forever even if they are considered obsolete in the rest of the world.

The Panamanians have bought small lots of all kinds of rifles over the decades from all sorts of places. Most of their police force have Taiwanese T65s, which are a piston-driven version of the M16. Walk into a bank down there, and the private security guards have odd SMGs from all over. I've seen a quad-stack 9mm SITES Spectre M4 there, of all things. Just about anything is likely to be seen there if you hang out long enough.
When democracy becomes tyranny, those of us with rifles still get to vote.

Did those SKS rifles have plastic/polymer stocks? Looked awfully black to be wood.

When there on 89, the only non-US rifle I saw was the Taiwanese model 65

When I was there in the 60s all the GIs had M1s. Yup, shiny SKS.

Poking around on the 'net, there are photos showing an honor guard with SKS carbines in medium brown wood stocks and Panamanian WAVES or a similar contingent with blued SKS carbines.
